Champion figure skater Alysa Liu is revamping her routine in light of the homicide investigation involving singer-songwriter D4vd.

As reported by TMZ, the 20-year-old Olympian recently debuted a short program featuring “This Is How It Feels,” D4vd’s 2023 track with Icelandic artist Laufey. She performed the routine at the 2025 Lombardia Trophy in Italy this month and ultimately won the short program with a score of 69.62 points. Liu had planned to use the routine throughout the 2025-2026 season, but decided to go in a “different direction” as authorities investigate the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez — a 15-year-old girl whose body was found in a car registered to D4vd.

“As many of you know, I recently debuted a new short program for the ‘25-‘26 season. However, in light of recent news, my team & I are confidently pursuing a different direction that aligns with my values & just my overall ethos,” Liu announced in a September 24 Instagram. “I’m eager to start brainstorming new ideas, & I want to ensure my creative process isn’t rushed.”

According to the Associated Press, Liu is now working on a new program alongside coaches Phillip DiGuglielmo and Massimo Scali. Liu said she will perform older routines in the meantime.

“I have to change it, you know? Forced to change my hand, basically,” she told the AP. “But that’s alright, I almost was grieving the process — ‘Oh, I have my programs. They were going to grow and evolve, and I was going to add more to it.’ But there’s nothing like a fresh start.”

On September 8, the Los Angeles Police Department discovered a decomposed body in an impounded Tesla reportedly owned by D4vd, legal name David Anthony Burke. More than a week later, the medical examiner identified the body as Hernandez, a Riverside County teen who went missing in April 2024.

Authorities have since raided an LA home where D4vd was staying, but have yet to name a suspect in the homicide investigation. The singer-songwriter, best known for his 2022 viral hits"Here with Me" and "Romantic Homicide,” is reportedly cooperating with authorities.

“Investigators are following up on several leads,” an LAPD spokesperson told Complex on Thursday. “Once additional information is available to share with the public it will be released by Media Relations Division.”

Hernandez’s body was released to her family earlier this week. According to ABC 7, a funeral service for the teen is scheduled for Oct. 4.
