James Harden’s Thirteen, an upscale restaurant in Houston, has reportedly closed due to a debt of more than $2 million.

As reported by Chron’s Michael Shapiro on Wednesday, the restaurant, which first opened its doors in 2021, has had its locks changed because of what a note on its door says is “non-payment of rent.”

The note, seen here, goes on to say that delinquent rents “and other amounts” total $2.2 million. If this amount is paid, the note says, new keys to the premises will be provided.

Complex has reached out to Thirteen reps for comment. This story may be updated.

As of this writing, reservations for the Midtown Houston restaurant were still active on its official site. Billed as “a labor of love” for the current Clippers player and Rockets alum, Thirteen’s current chef is Siddartha Cadena, who has more than two decades of culinary experience to his name.

Last year, the restaurant was significantly overhauled, complete with a new menu. At the time, general manager Sean Knight told Modern Luxury that the menu was “a reflection of Cadena’s global expertise and love for creating culinary experiences you simply can’t find anywhere else.”

Recent social media updates from the Thirteen team focused on its trio of flavor options for its pork chops, plus a recent event headlined by actor and comedian Marlon Wayans.

“I wanted to bring a culinary experience that mimicked some of the finest dining experiences that I've gathered from across the globe,” Harden once said of his intentions with the restaurant.

“In times of hardship, particularly during the pandemic when the city was reeling, it was our shared love for culinary exploration that offered a solace and connection to the people of this city. It's from this spirit of resilience and community that Thirteen emerged.”

For now, Harden doesn't appear to have publicly commented on Thirteen's reported closure.
