Shaquille O’Neal is setting the record straight about his personal life after online chatter linked him to an influencer less than half his age.
The former NBA star responded on Instagram on September 29 to speculation that he was romantically tied to 21-year-old Sophie Rain following his appearance at her birthday party.
"I don’t [date] that young," O’Neal wrote in the comments section of a post that fueled headlines. "But I will date your mom and give u a brother."
The talk began on September 22, when Rain posted a photo to X that showed her with O’Neal.
The picture, taken at her 21st birthday party in Las Vegas, showed the creator leaning on one of his legs while flashing her middle finger at the camera. O’Neal smiled in the shot, dressed casually in black.
Rain captioned the post, "Look who I ran into on my birthday."
The image quickly spread across social media.
"Shaq definitely has a type," one user wrote in reply.
Another asked, "WHY IS HE SMILING LIKE THA."
Rain has built a following online and went viral in 2024 after saying she earned $83 million through her OnlyFans account.
In December of that year, she spoke to People about the criticism she faced.
"Honestly, all the people online that hate me, and they post the mean comments and everything, that’s what motivates me to just keep growing and to keep booming and keep doing my own thing," she said.
"It just makes them mad for no reason. They don’t know me."
O’Neal, 53, has been in the spotlight for decades, first as a center with the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, and Miami Heat, then as a commentator, businessman, and media personality.
His marriage to Shaunie Henderson ended in 2011. Since then, he has occasionally addressed interest in his dating life but rarely confirmed anything publicly.
In June, he spoke about rumors on his Big Podcast, noting that constant speculation about who he might be seeing was something he had grown accustomed to.
