Vin Diesel Reveals 'Fast X: Part 2' Will Finish Filming in Los Angeles: 'Finally Returning Home'

The action star said the decision was made in response to the deadly LA wildfires: "Los Angeles needs it now more than ever."

The Fast and Furious franchise is returning to the city that started it all.

Producer and actor Vin Diesel confirmed the news via Instagram on Thursday in a message in which he revealed that the much-anticipated Fast X sequel would move production to Los Angeles—the location where the franchise’s 2001 inaugural installment was filmed. Diesel said the decision was made after he and his co-star Jordana Brewster had a heartfelt discussion about the L.A. wildfires.

“Last week, during the fires that displaced LA… my sister Jordana reached out to me and said… Please have Universal film the rest of Fast X Part 2 in LA,” he captioned the Instagram, which included a throwback photo of him and Jordana. “Los Angeles needs it now more than ever… Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home. All love…”

While attending the 2021 red carpet premier of Fast X: Part 1, Diesel teased the possibility of expanding Fast X into a trilogy.

“As filmmakers, you want to allow people to enjoy the film without tipping the hat too much,” he told Fandango. “I can say this: Going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter. And after the studio saw this, part one, they said, ‘Could you make Fast X, the finale, a trilogy?’”

However, the hopes for a 12th F&F installment were ultimately quashed in 2024, when Diesel called Part 2 the “grand finale.”

“Just finished our end of the week Fast meeting with the writers and the whole team,” he wrote on Instagram. “To say the excitement for our finale was incredibly powerful is an understatement. Wow. So exciting… Thank you for being the backbone of this global saga that because of you, transcends the screen. This grand finale is not just an ending; it’s a celebration of the incredible family we’ve built together. Hope to make you proud!”

Universal Studios has yet to confirm a release date for Fast X: Part 2.
