Beloved actress Diane Keaton, whose films ranged from classic movies like The Godfather to The Father of the Bride, has died at the age of 79.

That's according to TMZ and People, which did not reveal a cause of death or any circumstances of how the Academy Award-winning actress died. The news sent fans to social media to offer tributes, and many are wondering about Keaton's family and whether she ever married or had children.

(Here's a roundup of what is known about her death.)

The answer is that Keaton never had a husband. However, she did adopt two kids. Their names are Dexter and Duke, and she adopted them in her 50s and raised them on her own, People reported.

"They have no interest in what I do, which I think is very healthy. We live a relatively normal — well, sort of normal — life," she told People.

Keaton was asked by Lisa Kudrow about the topic of marriage in an interview for Interview Magazine.

"Our society has always had an expectation for women to get married, and you’ve said it just hasn’t felt right for you. What informed that feeling?" Kudrow asked.

Keaton explained her stance on getting a husband.

"It goes back to my mother, because, for me, most everything does. I love my dad, of course—that goes without saying—but she was always there, and he was always working. He was working hard, and he was really interesting. And he loved her, too," she told Interview Magazine.

"She had four kids, and I was the firstborn. I saw how much she gave up. I mentioned watching her get that crowning glory and being Mrs. Highland Park. After that, we moved down to Santa Ana, and it was over," she added.

"There was no more trying things out. I feel like she chose family over her dreams. And she was just the best mother, but I think that she is the reason why I didn’t get married. I didn’t want to give up my independence. By the way, no one has ever asked me to marry them, either, so that might be a good answer. I should’ve started with that and called it a day."

According to People, she opened up in interviews about having kids.

She told Ladies' Home Journal in 2008, "I didn't think that I was ever going to be prepared to be a mother."

She continued, according to People, "Motherhood was not an urge I couldn't resist; it was more like a thought I'd been thinking for a very long time. So I plunged in."

Keaton also spoke to People about staying single.

“Today I was thinking, I'm the only one in my generation of actresses who has been a single woman all her life,” she told People in 2019. “I'm really glad I didn't get married. I'm an oddball. I remember in high school, this guy came up to me and said, ‘One day you're going to make a good wife.’ And I thought, ‘I don't want to be a wife. No.’”
