Several accounts from friends are increasingly painting a picture of beloved actress Diane Keaton as a frail and declining figure in her final weeks.

Now, a famous songwriter has put her name to it. Singer, composer, and songwriter Carole Bayer Sager has opened up about her friend's condition as Keaton's death loomed.

Keaton, 79, died on October 11. Dispatch audio shows firefighters responded to a report of a person "down" at Keaton's Los Angeles-area home. Her cause of death, though, has not been released yet. The actress is being mourned across the world for her comedic talents and dramatic versatility, showcased in such movies as The Godfather and The Father of the Bride.

Bayer Sager told People that she saw Keaton a couple of weeks before the actress died, and what she witnessed concerned her.

“I saw her two or three weeks ago, and she was very thin," Sager said. "She had lost so much weight."

People wrote that Sager was "surprised by her appearance."

Sager told People that she hadn't seen Keaton much recently because of the Pacific Palisades wildfires, which sent Keaton decamping to Palm Springs. According to People, Sager wrote a Christmas song for Keaton.

"She had to go to Palm Springs because her house had been damaged inside, and they had to clean everything," Sager told People. "She was down there for a while, and when she came back, I was kind of stunned by how much weight she'd lost."

Sager also expressed how much she loved Keaton.

"She was a magic light for everyone," Sager told People. "She was so special, she just lit up a room with her energy. She was happy and upbeat and taking photographs of everything she saw."

Other celebrities also weighed in with tributes to Keaton.

"You’ve left us with a trail of fairy dust, filled with particles of light and memories beyond imagination," wrote actress Goldie Hawn on Instagram. "How do we say goodbye? What words can come to mind when your heart is broken? You never liked praise, so humble, but now you can’t tell me to 'shut up' honey. There was, and will be, no one like you."

Jane Fonda also wrote a tribute to Keaton on Instagram.

"It’s hard to believe...or accept…that Diane has passed. She was always a spark of life and light, constantly giggling at her own foibles, being limitlessly creative…in her acting, her wardrobe, her books, her friends, her homes, her library, her world view," she wrote. "Unique is what she was. And, though she didn’t know it or wouldn’t admit it, man she was a fine actress!"
