While Jennifer Lopez was a guest on TODAY, anchor Craig Melvin mentioned asked the singer-actress about her divorce from Ben Affleck, prompting a pretty good natured response from Lopez.

After two years of marriage and dedicating her ninth album to Affleck, Lopez filed for divorce against the actor and director, with the marriage being her fourth. While the exes are amicable, as Lopez still spends time with Affleck's son and daughter from his marriage to Jennifer Garner, Lopez was a bit flustered when Affleck was brought up during her TODAY interview on Monday (October 6). Lopez was on the talk show to promote her upcoming musical-drama Kiss of the Spider Woman.

"In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical, your divorce was also finalized," Melvin began, to which Lopez laughed.

"There you go!" she said. "Look at this guy!”

"But then, I read your ex is an executive producer," Melvin continued.

"He is," Lopez confirmed. “If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have [gotten] made, and I will always give him that credit. And yeah, things happen. You have to keep going."

The pop icon also shared that filming Spider Woman was cathartic for her since it revolved around "escapism." "It's about how movies and art save us in the hardest times of our lives," she continued. "And doing this project was such a dream come true for me that it really got me through, to kind of survive a moment that was difficult in my personal life, as well."

While thanking Affleck for pushing her to portray Ingrid Luna, a role she was "born to play" in Spider Woman, on CBS Sunday Morning last week, she also said the process of their divorce was a "really tough time."

"It was hard not to think about stuff. It was the best and the worst of times, in a way," she explained.

"Honestly, I have to say it was the best thing that ever happened to me,” Lopez shared. "Because it changed me… it helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow. Become more self-aware. I’m a different person now than I was last year."
