The game isn’t over yet. Sony has officially set the next Jumanji film into motion, with cameras scheduled to roll in Los Angeles this November.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the core cast—Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan—will all be back, reuniting under the direction of Jake Kasdan. The movie already has a release date circled on the calendar: December 11, 2026.
This will mark the third time Johnson, Hart, Black, and Gillan team up inside the world of Jumanji, which has become one of Sony’s most reliable franchises. Kasdan, who also directed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017 and Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019, is once again taking the helm. The story remains under wraps for now, but the script comes from Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, the writing duo behind the previous entries.
Jumanji’s history runs deep. The franchise began with Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 picture book, which introduced the idea of a magical board game where wild adventures spilled into the real world.
That book inspired the 1995 film starring Robin Williams, a cult favorite that introduced the concept to a new generation.
Sony revived the property in 2017 with a modern twist, turning the board game into a video game that pulls real teenagers into avatar bodies.
That relaunch wasn’t just successful—it was a global smash, raking in more than $962 million. The 2019 follow-up added new characters and settings, earning another $800 million worldwide.
The next installment looks to build on that momentum while keeping the same mix of comedy, action, and big-screen spectacle that made the rebooted series a hit.
Returning actors from the real-world teen cast—including Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blaine, and Morgan Turner—are expected to appear again. Awkwafina, who joined in The Next Level, is also slated to return.
Some fresh faces are joining the jungle adventure this time around. Brittany O’Grady, known for The White Lotus and Netflix’s It’s What’s Inside, is on board in an undisclosed role. Burn Gorman, who appeared in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, is also part of the cast.
Their characters are being kept secret for now, leaving fans to speculate how they’ll shake up the group dynamic.
