Nicki Minaj says that her fans would be upset if they discovered how many ideas have been stolen from her.
The rapper made the comment while responding to a post on X about director Bradley Banton taking inspiration from her for his film, More Life.
In his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Banton said about the project, “I was watching Nicki Minaj live and thought, ‘This is cinema.’ It was so entertaining… the vision literally started right there.”
In her response, the Pink Friday artist seemed partly thankful but partly disturbed.
“I’m so happy for this man,” she wrote. “One day, maybe I’ll stop just inspiring others & I’ll have my own platform to inspire from.
“Queen Radio visual edition & my documentary were too much light,” she continued. “If I told you how many ideas were stolen from me you’d cry. But hey. It’s ok, I guess?”
In a lengthy follow-up message on X, Nicki criticized music industry "gatekeepers" for trying to "control everything."
“Industries are going bankrupt because they play gatekeeper with gates that were never theirs to keep,” she said.
“In order for the natural flow of evolution in any industry/civilization to reach its goal & beyond, the GOD appointed superstars & game changers & leaders must take their GOD appointed seats,” she added. “They must be allowed to breathe.”
“By trying to control everything you no longer control anything,” she concluded.
Nicki has been busy on social media recently. The rapper took to X on Thursday (Oct. 16) to issue a stern warning to Britney Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline amid their ongoing spat.
“KEVIN FEDERLINE BITCH WHEN I CATCH U,” she wrote in a since-deleted post.
