Freddie Gibbs considers Alfredo 2, his latest full-length collaborative project with The Alchemist, to be a “perfect’ album.
The acclaimed album, his and Alchemist’s second together, arrived back in July and currently stands as a major contender for impending year-end, best-of coverage. Clearly, Gibbs agrees with the general assessment of his latest project, quickly naming it as his “perfect 10” pick when interviewed by Pitchfork this weekend amid 2025 MTV Video Music Awards proceedings.
“My perfect 10 album? The one I just dropped, Alfredo 2,” Gibbs said with a laugh, as seen below. “The best song off that album to me, it changes every week. You know, I got three kids so I love all of ‘em the same but sometimes one’ll pop up and be my favorite. But probably my favorite off the album if I gotta choose, probably ‘Ensalada’ with Anderson .Paak.”
Gibbs was nominated alongside Leon Thomas for Best R&B for their “MUTT” remix at this year’s VMAs, with Mariah Carey’s “Type Dangerous” ultimately emerging victorious in the category. For a full list of winners, including Doechii and Sabrina Carpenter, see here.
Gibbs and Alchemist recently sat down with Complex’s Jordan Rose for an extensive conversation about their Alfredo sequel. During the interview, Gibbs, whose previous full-length with Alchemist arrived back in 2020 and went on to be named by Complex as the year’s fourth-best album, looked back on his first meeting with the prolific producer.
“That’s what he do. He thug it out in the studio,” Gibbs said. “It was just vibes. So I was probably just hanging out in the studio at his shit probably for like six, seven years before we even worked.”
