Freddie Gibbs says the chatter surrounding much-discussed footage of him and Benny the Butcher at an airport in Paris is just “more fake shit.”
In a recent interview for Complex News, out in full on Sept. 3, the Alfredo 2 artist was asked about the video, which was recently made the subject of some decidedly headlineable remarks from Westside Gunn. According to Gibbs, the moment in question amounted to mere “talking” and nothing else.
“I mean, you saw me standing there,” Gibbs told Complex News. “I was just in the airport. Everything that everybody tried to make out of it, that wasn’t true. I didn’t even really, barely even said a word. I was just standing there. I saw him just standing there. Of course, we ain’t in a friendship. What are we gonna do? I ain’t going to jail over that.”
Freddie and Benny’s apparent issues are years-deep at this point, with a key Alfredo 2 track, “Empanadas,” seemingly nodding to a 2022 Buffalo-based incident fans had speculated involved him and Benny both.
Elaborating further on the more recent airport video, Freddie let Complex know what he said.
“The only thing I really said was ‘Aye, man, this ain’t the time or the place,” Gibbs recalled, adding that he was en route to London at the time to “get a bag,” something he wasn’t about to mess up with any sort of actual altercation.
“I ain’t about to fuck my bag up,” he said.
Gibbs also likened “a lot of this rap shit” to professional wrestling, noting that he’s not interested in such tactics (“I don’t wrestle n***as”) and pointing out that he and Gunn, specifically, haven’t spoken about any of this directly.
“I don’t know where all that comes from,” he said, seemingly referencing Gunn’s own assessment of the Paris airport footage. ‘I don’t know. I didn’t even really look at the shit.”
