Being a performer doesn't just mean hitting your cues, but also acting quick when interrupted.
Ne-Yo was in the middle of performing "Because of You" during a tour stop in Japan on Saturday (Sept. 27) when a man rushed the stage and tried to pose next to the singer. In a now-viral video, Ne-Yo acted quick, pushing the invader off to the side without missing a beat. Security can be seen handling the man shortly after in the background.
The R&B icon then took to his Instagram Story after the incident, reasserting his boundaries.
"This is what you DON'T do. I'm a gentleman but I WILL slap the shit out of a person disrespecting my stage," he wrote. "And then keep the party going. Don't try me. All love, til it's not."
He also surprisingly said that the incident would have not ended the way that it did if the person approached him differently. "Had he ran up with love I woulda let him rock for a minute… idiot. Don’t be this guy," Ne-Yo continued.
When he's not swatting away stage crashers, Ne-Yo is becoming the spokesman for polyamorous relationships. The singer has been very open about his life with four girlfriends, even hopping on Kai Cenat's stream recently to spread the gospel.
"I’m in a great space," Ne-Yo said. "I am currently in a polyamorous relationship. I have four beautiful ladies that move with me on the regular."
When asked what spurred the lifestyle change, the "Miss Independent" singer pointed to his divorce from longtime partner Crystal Renay in 2023, who cited infidelity and fathering a child outside of their marriage as the crux of their separation.
"I’m 45 years old,” he told Cenat. “At this point in my life, everything I do is about what’s best for me, what’s best for my kids, what’s best for my tribe. That’s it. I’mma keep it a buck with you. I was married before this, to one woman. Things didn’t go well. I made my mistakes. We got divorced, a lot of people got hurt in the process, and I told myself at that moment I ain’t lying to nobody about nothing ever again.”
