ASAP Rocky has taken some time to sing the praises of Jay-Z, particularly his penchant for giving great advice via his music.
Speaking with Elle Magazine, the actor and rapper said: "I think Jay-Z is a Black therapist. A lot of people come to him with their problems."
The topic arose while Rocky told the publication about his next movie, the psychological thriller, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Rose Byrne stars as a therapist named Linda while Rocky plays a motel super named James, who becomes an emotional outlet for her.
"That whole fucking film is an anxiety attack," Rocky told the publication, confessing that he doesn’t yet understand the concept of therapy.
"My outlook on therapy is so pessimistic, it’s not even funny. I might get killed for this," he said, "but I put therapists in the same box as psychic readings. I look at it like, yo, if you don’t share the same experiences, what’s the point of me telling a stranger my business for an hour straight, for them to just say, 'Okay, well, how did that make you feel?'"
He also discussed his and Rihanna’s third child being a girl, as they were still expecting at the time of the interview. "I hope it’s a girl. I really do," he said. "We’re praying for a girl. I feel like it’s going to be a girl. This pregnancy is so different from the other two. You can tell from the experience. I hope it’s a baby girl, man. I need that."
On Wednesday (September 24), the couple announced they had welcomed their third child, a daughter named Rocki Irish Mayers, on September 13. "MY LIL LADIES," he wrote in the comment section.
Rocky's latest film, Highest 2 Lowest, arrived earlier this month and is now available to stream on Apple TV+. Directed by Spike Lee, the crime thriller also stars Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, John Douglas Thompson, Dean Winters, LaChanze, Princess Nokia and Ice Spice.
