The man who allegedly stabbed Tory Lanez in prison is reportedly serving a life sentence for a murder charge.

A source from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation told TMZ that Lanez was attacked by inmate Santino Casio on Monday morning at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.

The source also noted that this isn’t Casio’s first violent incident while behind bars.

The 42-year-old inmate is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder, attempted murder, and other violent crimes.

Casio was reportedly handed a six-year sentence for assaulting another inmate with a deadly weapon, and a two-year sentence for possessing or manufacturing a weapon while incarcerated.

Following the recent incident, Casio was allegedly moved to restricted housing while authorities investigate the attack.

A source told TMZ following the attack that Lanez was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. A motivation for the stabbing has yet to be revealed.

An update shared to Lanez’s Instagram account claimed the rapper suffered collapsed lungs and was placed on a “breathing apparatus" after being stabbed 14 times.

"Tory was stabbed 14 times - including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face," read an update shared to Lanez’ account following the incident.

"Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own. Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support,” the statement read.

Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, is currently serving time for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s house in the Hollywood Hills.
