Instagram wants to bring “a splash of color and joy” to New Yorkers’ daily travel experience.
Ahead of the MTA’s transition to OMNY and tap-to-pay tech, Instagram has rolled out a new offering of co-branded MetroCards, complete with designs from local artists whose names should be familiar to those tapped into the larger NYC art space. The new designs from @subwaytakes, @newyorknico, and @overheardnewyork will be available at select MetroCard vending machines.
Below, get a closer look at the cards, as well as at additional IG and MTA co-branding in action.
IG’s MetroCard overhaul follows the rollout of several new features on the platform, which joins Threads, Facebook, and WhatsApp under the larger Meta banner headed by Mark Zuckerberg. In November, IG rolled out several tweaks to the DM experience, including the ability to share your live location with friends. Earlier this year, GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion were recruited for IG's Close Friends Only podcast. Revisit that here.
