In the early hours of the morning on Jan. 17, Drake let go the visuals for one of his solo tracks off of Her Loss, “Jumbotron Shit Poppin.” The video is a perfect compliment to the fast-paced song produced by Philadelphia-based collective Working on Dying complete with various scenes documenting one of Drake’s lavish overseas vacations, a cameo from rising London rapper Central Cee, and an expensive red Ferrari parked in the driveway for good measure. But we’re here to talk about the $2,669,625 worth of jewelry he was wearing.
Throughout the video, Drake can be seen flaunting multiple pieces of jewelry formerly owned by Pharrell that were auctioned off as part of the first Joopiter auction back in November 2022. In true 2000s Pharrell fashion, he’s rocking them all around his neck simultaneously.
There’s some obvious standouts like the N.E.R.D. pendant, which sold for over $2 million. But Drake didn’t just stop at the biggest and most memorable Jacob and Co.-crafted chains. He also decided to get a bit nostalgic and snag the gold PSP from the auction lot as well. We wonder if he was playing some Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories or NBA Street Showdown on the long flight home?
Check out a breakdown of all of Pharrell’s old pieces that Drake was flexing in the “Jumbotron Shit Poppin” video below.
N.E.R.D. Pendant Chain
Final Auction Price: $2,184,000
We now know who spent over $2 million on Skateboard P’s N.E.R.D. chain. Arguably one of Pharrell’s most iconic custom pieces, this Jacob and Co. creation originally debuted back in 2005. If the giant circular pendant adorned with Baby Milo-ified versions of Pharrell, Chad Hugo, and Shay Haley wasn’t enough, it hung from a thick Gucci link chain flooded with white, natural light pink, natural fancy yellow, and color enhanced blue diamonds. The piece was way ahead of its time and helped usher in an entirely new level of creativity when it came to custom jewelry in hop-hop. It still looks just as innovative almost 18 years later. It’s obvious why Drake wanted to snag this one once it became available.
N.E.R.D. Yellow Gold Brain Pendant Chain
Final Auction Price: $150,000
A few weeks ago, we saw Kid Cudi step out to the Critics Choice Association’s 5th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema and Television rocking the white gold version of the N.E.R.D brain logo pendant. It looks like Drake was the lucky winner of the auction for the yellow gold edition. This piece from 2004 was another Jacob and Co. creation to celebrate Pharrell’s group. The 14-karat yellow gold chain and pendant are accentuated by an N.E.R.D Brain logo set in rubies.
BBC Pendant Chain
Final Auction Price: $150,000
Pharell is known for making custom pieces to commemorate various aspects of his career. So, of course he had some Billionaire Boys Club-inspired jewelry commissioned back in the day. The particular piece was created back in 2003 to mark the launch of BBC with his close friend and business partner NIGO. The BBC astronaut head logo hangs from a white gold chain. In total, the piece weighs roughly three pounds and features close to 3,000 white and black diamonds set in 14-karat white gold.
Oakley Razor Blade 'Unauthorized'
Final Auction Price: $62,500
Back in the day, Pharrell iced out damn near anything. Case in point, this bespoke pair of Oakley Razor Blade sunglasses. The performance eyewear was given a premium upgrade in the form of 2,353 pave white diamonds set across the temples and bridge that have been encased in 18-karat yellow gold. Of course, this custom piece came courtesy of the one and only Jacob the Jeweler. These Oakleys certainly aren’t meant for the trails or the slopes.
Skateboard Pendant Chain
Final Auction Price: $103,750
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Drizzy spotted with Pharrell’s old skateboard pendant around his neck. Earlier this month, he was photographed in St. Barth’s rocking the iconic custom piece. But if you needed any further confirmation that Drake is the new owner of another one of Pharrell’s signature pendants, now we have the “Jumbotron Shit Poppin” video. The piece features two 18-karat gold fingerboards covered in nearly 2,000 round, brilliant diamonds hanging from a 22-karat gold chain. Much fresher than your average Tech Decks.
Sony PSP Encased in Solid Gold
Final Auction Price: $19,375
There are certainly much more extravagant items that Drake purchased from the Joopiter auction, but this PSP encased in 14-karat gold is too nostalgic to not get excited about. Like his gold Blackberry, this gold PSP is quintessential 2000s Pharrell. It shows just how much fun he was having back in that era flooding out his entire closet in diamonds and gold. While everyone is trying to snag a PS5 from their local store in 2023, Drake is purchasing one-of-one Sony systems from 2008. We just wish we had $20,000 laying around we could have shelled out to own this piece of history. Hopefully, he’s going to make use of the custom Goyard carrying case that the PSP came with. You can’t have that gold getting scratched up in the carry-on.
