Back with a summer-ready dose of nostalgia, Beats has officially brought back the Pill Character, with an updated design of an original by Japanese artist Verdy.
For those of you who don’t remember, the Beats Pill character was the star of the early Beats By Dre ad campaigns. Now reimagined with long arms and squat, little legs, Verdy’s swaggy little guy also has a wide mouth that was the perfect size to slot your Beats Pill into.
He’s back as Beats team up with Verdy and Japanese rapper YoungCoco, who just signed to Verdy’s Verdy Sounds label.
Reimagined in Verdy’s style, and redubbed ‘Vear’, the character is being made available as a limited-edition collectible via Verdy’s Gift Shop. “I remember seeing the Beats original character back in the day and I thought it was super cool,” says Verdy. “Now I feel so happy that I had the opportunity to create my own version.”
The new drop features a cream-coloured Vear holding the latest Beats Pill in his mouth. YoungCoco, meanwhile, has cooked up an exclusive track to tie in with the launch.
The collectible character, bundled with a Beats Pill, is available for £380, exclusively at London’s Dover Street Market as part of Verdy’s Gift Shop takeover. The bundle will then roll out later this year across the U.S., China and Japan.
Beats previously collaborated with Verdy for the original Vear Beats collectible Pill holder in August 2024, and Verdy’s Girls Don’t Cry project to create limited-edition Beats Flex earbuds in 2023.
