Photographer Mike Miller’s new book, Outtakes & Icons – Four Decades, is now available for purchase on Complex for $125. The book captures over forty years of Miller’s work documenting the intersections of hip-hop, fashion, and Los Angeles culture.
A third-generation Angeleno, Miller built his reputation in the 1990s shooting some of the defining visuals of West Coast hip-hop. Outtakes & Icons expands on that legacy, showcasing unreleased photographs that highlight his range across music, film, and art. The collection includes portraits of Tupac Shakur, Eazy-E, Doja Cat, 21 Savage, A$AP Rocky, and actor Jeremy Allen White, alongside images of jazz greats Herb Alpert and Stan Getz.

The book also features behind-the-scenes outtakes from the first Stüssy streetwear campaign, giving readers a look at the roots of contemporary street style. Original contact sheets are reproduced throughout, revealing Miller’s process and offering context for how his lens has shaped the visual identity of multiple generations of artists.
Following his acclaimed 2012 release West Coast Hip-Hop: A History in Pictures, Miller continues to document the evolving dialogue between art, music, and identity in Los Angeles and beyond. Outtakes & Icons cements his role as one of the city’s most influential visual storytellers.
