UPDATED 8/1, 8:24 p.m. ET: Lil Yachty is taking an extended break from social media.

The "Hate Me" rapper announced his decision via Instagram on Thursday, after speaking on Drake's Kendrick Lamar feud and catching heat for his ATL vs. NYC style comments.

"I wanna make it be known that like, I'm getting the fuck off that—I'm not doing no more talking. I don't get shit else to say," Yachty said during an Instagram Live broadcast. "I'm gone off this internet shit, I think I'm gone for the rest of the year. I swear to god."

Although Lil Boat said he was contractually obligated to continue his A Safe Place podcast, he has no intentions of posting on X (f.k.a. Twitter) or sharing his fit pics.

"I'm deleting the apps off my phone, swear to god. ... I'm minding my fucking business, twin," he said.

He went on to directly reference the NYC fashion comments. "Again, I said what I said, I got nothing but love for New York and New York fashion. And with that being said, I am gone from the internet."

UPDATED 7/29, 9:15 p.m. ET: Lil Yachty addressed those who were offended by his comments about New York fashion during a conversation with Cash Cobain on A Safe Place podcast.

Yachty believes people misconstrued his words, maintaining he never said people in New York cannot dress. While the Bad Cameo artist is certain that the discussion was about the Bronx, he's unaware if the "cannot dress" remark was reserved for residents of the borough.

Either way, Yachty is adamant about Atlanta being at the forefront of the culture, citing the city's contributions, such as slang, before providing just two examples: "slime" and "twin."

"Now when we talking about the history of fashion, I would never disrespect New York culture. I love New York culture," he said, name-dropping Wu-Tang and Dipset as the GOATs of fashion.

The Instagram Live appearance comes after Yachty clarified his remarks about New York fashion and asserted that "lately" all of the trends come from Atlanta.

"When it comes to the flyest trendsetting people, it's Atlanta. ... I apologize to the Bronx if they felt some kinda way about that comment," he said in the TikTok below.

Lil Yachty isn’t impressed by New York or Atlanta style.

In a recent episode of his podcast, A Safe Place, Lil Boat and his co-host, Mitch sat down with Cash Cobain to discuss a myriad of topics, including Atlanta’s influence on Cobain’s musical style.

After Cobain admitted that Atlanta’s music heavily impacted his sound—artists like Young Thug and Migos—the conversation segued into fashion.

“Everyone used to just kinda copy Atlanta. You said it yourself,” Yachty told the “Fisherrr” rapper around the 47:40 minute mark. “You just said even like the influence was extremely heavy from Atlanta. … As far as style goes, I don’t think it’s shit going on when it comes to New York fashion.”

Yachty added, “I think Atlanta n***as dress terrible too. It’s just me, myself, and I. I stand on the hill alone. That’s all I know. I can’t speak for anyone else other than myself.”

His comments reached the New York Twittersphere, which had some people up in arms, defending the city’s style.
