LeBron James says that the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors’ rivalry in the mid-to-late 2010s was like rap beef.
In a clip released ahead of the NBA conversation between James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, James reflected on what it was like to be a part of the rivalry that led to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances that featured the Warriors and Cavaliers from 2018.
“Those four straight years, Cleveland vs. Golden State. It was literally like East Coast vs. West Coast,” said James. “It was like a rap beef.”
While both Curry and KD laughed at the comparison, James continued on. “Golden State owned the West Coast and the Cavs owned the East Coast. It was like a rap beef,” he reiterated.
James is gearing up to face off against Curry and the Warriors again on Christmas — only, this time he’s with the Los Angeles Lakers. After a recent Lakers loss to the Pistons, James spoke about the upcoming matchup.
"Any time you get an opportunity to be on the court and compete vs. one of the greatest to ever play this game, you don't take it for granted,” said James. “I don't know how many more opportunities we will get to go against each other, so it's always fun."
Just a few days ago, James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabaar as the NBA’s all-time leader in regular season minutes played. James now has 57,471 minutes in total. When he broke the record, he revealed that his teammates called him “old as hell” as well as what he was going to do to celebrate the achievement.
"I just set the all-time-leading in minutes, I am not thinking about this next game yet," James said. "I'm about to get to this [hotel] room, drink some wine, play some Madden and chill the fuck out."
