Brian Reed Grant, who was selected in the 2002 MLB Draft, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

According to TMZ, the 40-year-old was picked up by officers after they arrived at his North Carolina home and found 61-year-old Randy Stewart dead from gunshot wounds. The Oak Island Police Department said in a news release that authorities were dispatched to the residence following reports of gunfire heard in the area.

Stewart is the owner of the Stewart Enterprises Locksmith Service, and investigators believe he was shot during a service call at the residence.

According to WECT, the District Attorney’s Office said Grant contacted a locksmith because he was locked out of his house. Police bodycam footage captured Grant claiming Stewart held a knife to his throat and told him there was a Navy SEAL inside his home.

Grant’s wife and two dogs were reportedly with him at the time because they planned on going fishing later that day.

Jail records, obtained by TMZ, indicate Grant is being held without bond.

Grant was drafted in the 7th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2002 MLB Draft. According to Baseball Reference, Grant spent five seasons in the minor leagues, playing for the Pulaski Blue Jays, Medicine Hat Blue Jays, and Auburn Doubledays. He pitched a total of 169.2 innings in that span, posting a 4.72 ERA with 111 strikeouts.
