Los Angeles Dodgers' phenom Shohei Ohtani is married to wife Mamiko Tanaka, who was a former professional basketball player.

Tanaka is also the mother of his only child. According to People, she is a "Japanese basketball player."

According to People, Tanaka played basketball for Waseeda University "before going professional in 2019 with the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women's Japan Basketball League."

People described Ohtani's wife as a "5-foot-11 forward" who retired in 2023 after four years of professional play. Ohtani referred to her as a "normal Japanese woman" he had known for a couple of years.

Ohtani first announced that he was married in a 2024 post on his Instagram page.

"To all my friends and fans throughout, I have an announcement to make," he wrote. "Not only have I began a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers, but I also have began a new life with someone from my Native country of Japan who is very special to me and I wanted everyone to know I am now married."

He added: "I am excited for what is to come and thank you for your support."

What to come included a baby daughter, who was born in April 2025. Ohtani also announced that news on Instagram.

“I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy, beautiful daughter,” he wrote on April 19 on Instagram. “To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents. I would also like to thank the Dodgers organization, my teammates, and the fans for their constant support and kind words of encouragement."

He added, “I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all of the medical professionals and everyone who dedicated their support to us, up until this wonderful day.”

The baseball player shared a photo of his hand with his wife's and daughter's hands on Mother's Day.
