When we hear about our favorite athletes off of the field, sometimes we need to put on the blinders. That isn't to say that there aren't some upstanding citizens among the professional ranks, but, like it or not, the sexual exploits of professionals like Tiger Woods, Brett Favre, and Roger Clemens will always gain far more press than the charity golf outing sponsored by your team's first basemen.

When a high-profile figure gets caught with their pants down (pun very much intended) we can't help but stare a little bit, even if it gets painful to see (read: Brett Favre). The 50 Craziest Sex Scandals in Sports History range from hilarious to horrifying, but, when it comes down to it, they always have to be considered when discussing the role of sports in a context beyond just the game.

50. Gary Payton, Sam Cassell, and Jason Caffey Assault a Male Exotic Dancer

Sports figure(s) involved: Gary Payton, Sam Cassell
Year: 2003

Talented athletes, from high school to the professional level, are used to getting what they want. It was hard not to hate on that star quarterback who may have gotten some extra help on his math test, or was dating the hottest girl in school. The entitled jock is a stereotype that has existed for decades, and for good reason. Perhaps that, in part, had to do with Gary Payton, Sam Cassell and Jason Caffey's alleged assault of male exotic dancer, Adrian Cimpean, the boyfriend of a female dancer who, despite his repeated requests, had denied Payton's sexual advances.

Apparently, The Glove doesn't deal with rejection well, because after she rebuffed him, and Cimpean told him to back off, he and his teammates allegedly starting laying the smack down on Cimpean. He was unable to receive any bit of revenge for the assault, though, as the case was later dropped due to exaggerations and inconsistencies in his testimony.

49. Colorado Football Recruiting Scandal

Sports figure(s) involved: Colorado Football Program
Year: 1997

Recruiting among big-time programs in the NCAA can be, and often is, a pretty shady game. The worst, and most unfortunate example of this crooked behavior came out of the Colorado Buffaloes football program in the late '90s and early 2000s. During recruiting visits to the school, players from the team would take prospective recruits out to parties on campus, and in two particular incidents, the recruits were accused of raping women present at the parties. In fact, the women claimed that the recruits had been led to believe that sex was to be expected from them.

Probes conducted by the university later revealed that sex and alcohol played a major part in Colorado's recruiting tactics, with players and coaches going so far as to enlist escort services and strippers to help show players a good time. Following poor results on the field, and pressure from the office of the Colorado governor, the athletic department had no trouble forcing head coach Gary Barnett out in 2005.

48. The University of Tennessee Is For Lovers

Sports figure(s) involved: Trae Golden
Year: 2013

Working at the university you once attended would probably make you a little bit nostalgic, but it's probably best to ignore any impulses to relive your glory days in college by getting, shall we say, overly friendly with current students. Particularly, if you're involved in the ethical compliance of those involved like head of Student Judicial Affairs, Jenny Wright.

Wright was dismissed from Tennessee this past May because of an alleged arrangement she had with Tennessee point guard Trae Golden to help get rid of some academic issues that had been hounding him. Suspicions of sexual activity arose because, when Wright was probed about the matter during an investigation conducted by the university, she refused to answer any questions about any inappropriate relationships she may have had with students, and instead offered to resign. Because that's not suspicious or anything.

47. Denny Neagle Might Have a Problem

Sports figure(s) involved: Denny Neagle
Year: 2004, 2006

When athletes fall from grace, they fall hard. Just look at Denny Neagle, the former All-Star pitcher who was caught soliciting sex from a prostitute in both 2004 and 2006 after his career slowed down due to injuries and age. After getting ticketed in 2004, the Colorado Rockies voided the final year of his contract, and Neagle's wife left him. To be honest, it's understating the situation to call that just a fall from grace. That's more like belly-flopping off the Empire State building.

46. James Worthy Caught with Hookers

Sports figure(s) involved: James Worthy
Year: 1990

During the '90-'91 season, James Worthy called up an escort service and requested that two escorts come to his room. Unbeknownst to him, police had recently shut down the prostitution ring and replaced the organization's staff with undercover police officers. Oops. Needless to say, Worthy was in jail for the Lakers' tip off that evening.

45. Jackie Gallagher-Smith Accused of Seducing Caddie

Sports figure(s) involved: Jackie Gallagher-Smith
Year: 2005

The role the caddie plays in any golfer's success cannot be understated, but that relationship should really only apply to the athlete's triumphs on the course, not what happens off of it. It appears that Jackie Gallagher-Smith didn't get the memo on that part, though, after her former caddie Gary Robinson accused her of seducing him for the purpose of getting pregnant. Jackie, Jackie, Jackie...didn't anyone ever tell you to never mix business with pleasure? Robinson filed a paternity suit, believing the child Gallagher-Smith had in 2005 to be his and not her husband's, and also sued her for emotional damages. However, the case was later dropped.

44. Delonte West's Rumored "Sexual Encounter" With LeBron's Mom

Sports figure(s) involved: Delonte West and LeBron James
Year: 2010

To be clear, since the rumor surfaced, Delonte West has gone out of his way to dispel any beliefs that the story of a sexual encounter taking place in 2010 between him and Gloria James to be true. That doesn't mean that the effects of the story weren't real, though. The report came to light during the 2010 playoffs when the Cavs were locked in a tight series with the Boston Celtics, and was a divisive force in the Cleveland locker room.

According to sources close to the matter, LeBron found out about the story before Game 4, the turning point in the series in terms of his individual performance. For the first three games of the series, James was shooting 54 percent from the field, but for the final three he managed only 34 percent. Hard to blame him. If we thought one of our teammates was getting it on with our mom, we wouldn't even be able to be in the same building as that dude, let alone play on a team with him.

43. Dana "Pokey" Chatman Accused of Affair with Player

Sports figure(s) involved: Dana Chatman
Year: 2007

In 2007, after three-and-a-half seasons heading the LSU Lady Tigers basketball program, Dana "Pokey" Chatman found her meteoric rise come to a crashing halt amid allegations that she had been engaged in a sexual relationship with a former player. Chatman had led LSU to three consecutive Final Fours during her tenure as head coach, but apparently that wasn't enough to excuse her actions. She was given an ultimatum by the university: either leave or get fired. Pretty sure that's what they call getting stuck between a rock and a hard place.

42. Max Mosley Is Super Kinky

Sports figure(s) involved: Max Mosley
Year: 2008

Mosley may take the cake when it comes to choosing the most bizarre incident on this list (though Marv Albert is damn close). The former president of the FIA—the governing agency of motor sports organizations like Formula One Racing—was the subject of much public ridicule and criticism when a videotape featuring him engaging in a Nazi-themed orgy with five prostitutes was discovered by the English tabloid, News of the World.

Unfortunately for Mosley, unlike reports of Elvis getting abducted by aliens or other, popular tabloid fare, this story actually turned out to be true. The son of Sir Oswald, a close friend to Hitler during his time in power, Mosley has always tried to disassociate himself with his father's questionable past, at least publicly. When word got out and the videotape of his rendezvous starting circulating around the Internet, Mosley tried to have it removed on the grounds that he hadn't been given proper warning of the story in advance by News of the World. But after a lengthy trial, the judge ruled against him, and Mosley eventually stepped down from his post in 2009.

41. Mark Chmura Sleeps with Teenage Babysitter

Sports figure(s) involved: Mark Chmura
Year: 2000

As soon as you leave high school, you're officially too old to be going to any post-prom parties. You never want to be that guy who already graduated but still finds himself hanging out with high schoolers a la Matthew McCounaghy in Dazed and Confused. And you especially don't want to be like Mark Chmura, the former Green Bay Packers tight end who was charged with allegations of sexual assault by the 17-year-old babysitter of his kids.

According to his accuser, Chmura showed up to a post-prom party hosted by the son of his close friend, and was getting a little too friendly with all the kids in attendance. Chmura played drinking games and hung out in the hot tub with them before taking the babysitter to the bathroom and sexually assaulting her. Though he was acquitted of all charges in court, Chmura admitted afterward that his conduct at the party, "wasn't something a married man should do." Yeah, duh.

40. Roger Clemens Is the A-Hole You Think He Is

Sports figure(s) involved: Roger Clemens
Year: 2008

Roger Clemens has done a lot of things during his professional career to make people think that he's something of an asshole, but starting an intimate relationship with a 16-year-old girl when he was 28 and married with two kids might be the worst.

According to McCready, the two met in a Florida bar when she was still in the early stages of her career and, though they were close, the sexual part of their relationship didn't begin until a few years later. Whatever the case, The Rocket had a wife and kids. What's he thinking getting involved with someone who can't even legally vote yet? When asked about the situation in 2008, all that Clemens had to say about it was that, "I have made personal mistakes in my life for which I am sorry." You should be a lot more than sorry, dude.

39. Lance Rentzel Exposes Himself to 10-Year-Old

Sports figure(s) involved: Lance Rentzel
Year: 1970

With his marriage to the gorgeous Hollywood star, Joey Heatherton, and a productive receiving career with the Dallas Cowboys, Lance Rentzel seemed to have a pretty good thing going. However, it all came crashing down in 1970 when the star football player was arrested on charges of exposing himself to a 10-year-old girl in Dallas.

It wasn't the first time he'd done this either. A few years earlier, when Rentzel was playing with the Vikings, he'd been caught flashing two young girls at a park in St. Paul, Minn. Somehow, he was let off on charges of disorderly conduct for both of the incidents so long as he received psychiatric treatment. Beyond the fact that exposing yourself to young girls is completely and utterly inexcusable, Rentzel also needs to get his head checked for letting himself lose a woman like this. SMH.

38. Boston College Women's Hockey Coach Sleeps with Player

Sports Figure(s) Involved: Tom Mutch and Kelli Stack
Year: 2007

The relationship between a coach and their players is one of trust, mutual respect, and a boatload of other character-building qualities. Nowhere on that list, though, will you find words like "romance," "intimacy," or "graphic text messages." Someone probably should've told this to former Boston College women's hockey coach, Tom Mutch, who, after it was discovered that he'd been regularly sexting one of his star players, Kelli Stack, resigned in April of 2007. Mutch did this despite the fact that he was married at the time, and just months earlier, his wife had given birth to their first child. He probably shouldn't be holding his breath on that Father of the Year award any time soon.

37. Brandon Davies Suspended From BYU

Sports figure(s) involved: Brandon Davies
Year: 2011

College: that time of our lives when the beer is cheap, classes are brutal, and we find ourselves overly concerned with how exactly we're going to impress the opposite sex on any given night. However, what may be the normal college experience for most students around the country isn't par for the course at the devoutly Mormon Brigham Young University. And no one knows that better than former Cougars big man, Brandon Davies.

During the 2011 season, Davies was paired up with National Player of the Year, Jimmer Fredette, and helped lead the Cougers to a No. 3 national ranking before the gifted power forward found himself suspended from the team just before the 2011 NCAA Tournament. And why was he suspended? Oh, ya know, for having pre-marital sex with his girlfriend. Yeah, you read that right, and if that seems a little bit crazy to you, then you're definitely not alone, but at BYU, students are required to sign an honor code that bars them from engaging in pre-marital sex, along with using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

Honestly, when you have rules like that in place, we just give credit to their coaches for being able to recruit any players at all. If you can convince a talented athlete to abstain from sex for four years, then you can sell water to a well.

36. Tom Payne Goes to Prison

Sports figure(s) involved: Tom Payne
Year: 1972

The first black player to ever play basketball at the University of Kentucky, Tom Payne entered UK with a mountain of expectations that he was ultimately unable to overcome. Though his time in Lexington yielded some on-court success, Payne was known for his wild temper during games, and was often targeted by racial slurs while playing on the road. His transition to the NBA was brief, as he only played 29 games for the Atlanta Hawks before being arrested on charges of rape. Since then, he's been in prison for much of his life, and only spent three years on the outside, from 1983 to 1986, before he was arrested again.

35. Tony Parker Allegedly Sleeps With Brent Barry's Wife

Sports figure(s) involved: Tony Parker and Brent Barry
Year: 2010

Guys, watch your phone. Your texts and Internet history tell a girl a whole lot about who you are and, if you're anything like Tony Parker, you want to keep that stuff under wraps. They're the male equivalent of a diary, except it's hard to claim "artistic license" with a camera roll full of sexts and hourly visits to Brazzers.com.

After perusing Tony Parker's phone, Eva Longoria reportedly discovered hundreds of texts between the Spurs point guard and Erin Barry (the now ex-wife of former teammate Brent Barry). Whoopsies. During divorce proceedings, Longoria claimed that Parker's infidelity extended far beyond getting it in with other player's wives and had a tattoo of her wedding date removed from her wrist.

34. Isiah Thomas' Sexual Harassment Case

Sports figure(s) involved: Isiah Thomas
Year: 2007

The final black eye on Isiah Thomas' disastrous tenure with the New York Knicks came in the form of a very messy and very public sexual harassment accusation from former Knicks marketing executive Anucha Browne-Sanders. Saying that Thomas had harassed her by calling her a "bitch" and a "ho," and then fired her in 2006 for complaining about the harassment, Browne-Sanders would end up winning the case and settling for $11.6M in damages.

Luckily for Zeke, the one who got left picking up the tab was Knicks owner James Dolan. Regardless of who paid it, though, the whole fiasco didn't exactly make Knicks fans nostalgic for their one-time GM and coach. And, in case you were unaware, they weren't really that fond of him in the first place.

33. Cristiano Ronaldo's Orgy

Sports figure(s) involved: Cristiano Ronaldo
Year: 2007

Cristiano Ronaldo has always had a Eurotrash look about him, and that label may have received some validation back in 2007 when it was discovered that he and his teammates had taken part in some questionable post game activities following their victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Enlisting the help of a nearby escort service, the Man U. footballers decided that the greatest team-building exercise would be to have a giant orgy with five hookers. Because of course it is. This is probably the most Ronaldo thing that Ronaldo has ever done.

32. Eddie Johnson's Unspeakable Crime

Sports figure(s) involved: Eddie Johnson
Year: 2006

Known as "Fast Eddie" for his speed and slashing ability, Johnson's nickname could've also easily referred to how quickly his life spun out of control after cocaine addiction and legal trouble found him banned from the league in 1987. Things didn't get any better for Johnson in the years to come. Since he was banned, Johnson claims he's been arrested at least 100 times, and the final straw came in 2008 when was found guilty of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in August 2006. He was dealt a life sentence without parole.

31. Chipper Jones Knocks Up Hooters Waitress

Sports figure(s) involved: Chipper Jones
Year: 1997

In the wake of the Atlanta Braves loss in the 1996 World Series to the New York Yankees, Chipper Jones made the puzzling decision to engage in an 18-month extramarital affair with a Hooters waitress, a relationship that would eventually result in the birth of their child, Matthew, in 1997. Jones admitted to his infidelities, saying how he needed to get his priorities in order again, but the third baseman must've had some trouble doing that since he and his wife would end up divorcing in 1999. After a 12-year marriage to another wife, Jones was last seen dating former Playboy model Taylor Higgins. Yeah, I think we know exactly what your priorities are, Chipper.

30. A-Rod Cruises for Numbers From the On-Deck Circle

Sports figure(s) involved: Alex Rodriguez
Year: 2012

Yankees faithful haven't been the biggest fans of A-Rod for the past year and, honestly, you can't really blame them. His connection to the Miami-based doping clinic Biogenesis of America has earned him much, well-deserved flack and, due to injuries, Rodriguez hasn't been able to use his on-field production to help silence his critics. But his troubles really started back in October when, amid a six-game hitting slump, A-Rod decided to try and boost his batting average in a different way.

During Game 1 of the ALCS, he tried to get the phone numbers of two girls sitting behind the Yankees dugout by having a ballboy throw a baseball to them with Rodriguez's phone number written on it. This came after Alex had been benched in the eighth inning because of his poor performance. So instead of cheering on his teammates, or thinking about the things he could've done to help himself get better, he just decided to chase some tail...during the playoffs! We're going to go out on a limb here and say that this also may have had something to do with Brian Cashman telling A-Rod to shut the fuck up.

29. Charles Barkley Speeds for Top

Sports figure(s) involved: Charles Barkley
Year: 2008

Charles Barkley is known for his gregarious, don't-give-a-shit attitude during TNT's studio coverage of the NBA, so does it really come as that big a surprise that the former All-Star was caught running a stop sign in 2008 while on his way to go meet up with a prostitute? Oh, and he was also driving under the influence. So yeah, not a great night for Chuck, especially given the fact that he'd announced his candidacy for Alabama's 2014 gubernatorial election just a few months earlier. We'll double-check on this, but we think that sort've stuff usually doesn't look good on any resume.

28. John Terry Has an Affair With His Teammate's Girlfriend

Sports figure(s) involved: John Terry and Wayne Bridges
Year: 2010

John Terry had an alleged four-month affair with Wayne Bridge's sweetie, lingerie model Vanessa Perroncel. That'll make things awkward in the Chelsea locker room. England's captain grabbed more headlines in the days that followed when it was reported that he'd impregnated Perroncel and later arranged for her to have an abortion.

27. Karen Owen's "F*ck List"

Sports figure(s) involved: Numerous Duke athletes
Year: 2010

FWIW, her list is actually hilarious. Somewhat shocking? Sure. Condemnable at times? Definitely. But while Owen's subject matter may be impeachable, at its heart, this "thesis" represents a body of work that embodies much of what today's collegiate culture has become about: the never-ending pursuit of ass. And she did it a lot better than most of us ever will. For god's sake, this girl soundtracked her hook-ups with DMX! When was the last time you really got down with Dark Man X like that?

26. Michael Vick as Ron Mexico

Sports figure(s) involved: Mike Vick
Year: 2005

Ladies, if you meet Michael Vick in a club and go back to his place for coitus, make him wear a condom. That seems like common sense life shit, but apparently not everyone is aware of the dangers of having unprotected sex with a 24-year-old athlete/dog-fighting enthusiast. In one such example, Vick was sued in 2005 for allegedly giving a woman herpes after a 2003 sexual encounter. During the trial, it was discovered that Vick used the alias "Ron Mexico" during STD testing and treatment, a revelation that caused the NFL to ban customized Falcons jerseys with "Mexico" across the back.

25. Wayne Rooney Cheats on His Pregnant Wife

Sports figure(s) involved: Wayne Rooney
Year: 2011

With his wife five months pregnant, Manchester United's Wayne Rooney allegedly dropped $1,500 per session to have sex with a 21-year-old prostitute over a four month period. Like England's version of Tiger Woods, stories of Rooney's exploits became fodder for British tabloids.

24. Michael Jordan Promises Hush Money... A Lot of Hush Money

Sports figure(s) involved: Michael Jordan
Year: 2002

Karla Knafel was one of (likely) many Michael Jordan mistresses, but she must have been special because No. 23 offered her $5,000,000 after he retired to stay silent about their affair. Knafel sued Jordan in 2002 claiming that MJ reneged on his bizarre offer and told the court that he confided in her that his marriage to now ex-wife Juanita was calculated to "maintain his favorable public image." Jordan won the case, but has seemingly been the target of a paternity suit every year since and divorced Juanita in 2007, a separation that cost a Jordan a reported $168,000,000 settlement. You can't win them all, MJ.

23. Franck Ribery and Sidney Govou Fingered in Prostitution Scandal

Sports figure(s) involved: Franck Ribery and Sidney Govou
Year: 2010

Here's a Complex crash course in French law: the age of consent in France is 15, but prostitutes must be at least 18. That might make your head explode, but it's very important to know if you're going to have sex with Parisian prostitutes in a nightclub. In 2010, French soccer players Franck Ribery, Karim Benzema, and Sidney Govou were investigated for just that, allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old hooker in a Paris nightclub. An official investigation wasn't launched until after the 2010 FIFA World Cup (how convenient) and eventually charges were dropped.

22. John Harkes Sleeps with Eric Wynalda's Wife

Sports figure(s) involved: John Harkes and Eric Wynalda
Year: 1998

Just two months before the 1998 World Cup, U.S. soccer coach Steve Sampson dropped John Harkes, the team's captain and one of its best players, for "leadership issues." The coach stayed quiet about the details for almost a decade, but later revealed in an interview that it was because Harkes was having an affair with Amy Wynalda, the wife of teammate Eric Wynalda. In case you're wondering, Sampson found out about the affair because another teammate, Roy Wegerle, spilled the beans like a gossiping teenager. SMH. For all of its drama, the team didn't win a single game and had perhaps the most disappointing World Cup performance in the field.

21. Ruben Patterson Pleads Guilty to Attempted Rape

Sports figure(s) involved: Ruben Patterson
Year: 2001

After averaging more than 13 PPG for the Sonics in '99-'00, Ruben Patterson effectually ended his tenure in Seattle when he was convicted of attempted rape. Patterson allegedly forced his children's nanny to perform a sex act on him. The event triggered a string of arrests for the disgraced shooting guard, including a misdemeanor assault charge for attacking a man who scratched his car, domestic abuse against his wife, and failing to register as a sex offender (a court order that resulted from his attempted rape conviction) when he moved to Ohio after his NBA career.

20. Eugene Robinson Busted for Solicitation Before the Super Bowl

Sports figure(s) involved: Eugene Robinson
Year: 1999

On the night before Super Bowl XXXIII, Falcons cornerback Eugene Robinson was given the Bart Starr Award for his "high moral character." And he celebrated by trying to pickup a prostitute later that evening. True story. Unfortunately for Robinson, the woman was an undercover police officer who was probably incensed by his low ball offer of $40 for oral sex. With his wife asleep in the hotel room, Robinson was arrested and, as you'd expect, played like shit in the Super Bowl. The Falcons fell to the Broncos 34-19.

19. Pacman Jones Runs Afoul of Strip Club Rules

Sports figure(s) involved: Adam "Pacman" Jones
Year: 2007

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has worked for years to shed the ruined reputation that he earned during the early stages of his career. His time with the Tennessee Titans was particularly tumultuous. Jones was involved in an altercation outside of a Las Vegas strip club that resulted in the paralysis of the club manager and Jones' one-year suspension from the league.

According to witnesses, Jones was seen in the strip club "making it rain" with Nelly (that's not a joke), but never had any intention to give up the money. Which, honestly, doesn't make any sense. Pacman, you're in a strip club. You can't just expect people to be handing a bunch of stray bills back to you. Jones got in an argument with the strippers who were taking his money, and eventually got physical with one of them before being forced out of the club. Bullets popped, weaves flew and when the glitter settled, Jones faced a number of problems both criminal and personal. We'll just decide to withhold judgment on his latest allegations for now...

18. Lawrence Taylor Caught with an Underage Prostitute

Sports figure(s) involved: Lawrence Taylor
Year: 2010

Most athletes flourish in retirement, but some enter a shame spiral that ends with an appearance on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Lawrence Taylor seems destined for the latter. After a handful of arrests during his playing days, Taylor reacquainted himself with the courtroom in 2010 for paying $300 to have sex with a 16-year-old girl. The disgraced linebacker claimed ignorance to the girl's age, dodged jail time, and won his case in civil court, but something tells us this loser's luck is running out.

17. Brett Favre Sends Dong Pics to Jenn Sterger

Sports figure(s) involved: Brett Favre
Year: 2010

The nerve of Brett fucking Favre. During his '08 season with the Jets, the old gunslinger allegedly left a string of humiliating voicemails and ridiculously unimpressive dick pics to team sideline reporter Jenn Sterger. Favre's moves were especially weird because, by all accounts, Sterger was unreceptive to the quarterback's early advances. That means that this dude was rejected (or at least brushed over) and just started asking her to his hotel room and firing off pictures of his dork *cough* allegedly *cough*. The NFL launched an investigation of misconduct and fined Favre, who was uncooperative with the case, $50,000.

16. Fat Ronaldo Caught with Transvestite Prostitutes

Sports figure(s) involved: Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima
Year: 2008

Be careful about picking up women in Brazil. Very careful. After a night at the club, Ronaldo took three transvestite prostitutes back to the crib and, upon finding out that they were male, allegedly offered each $600 to leave. One of the especially entrepreneurial hookers made a $30,000 counteroffer. When Ronaldo declined to barter over his potential humiliation, the prostitute leaked the story to the press. Not surprisingly, the Brazilian soccer star's engagement to Maria Beatriz Antony ended immediately after the scandal went public.

15. Mark Rogowski's Horrible Crime

Sports figure(s) involved: Mark Rogowski
Year: 1991

In the 1980's, few were more powerful in the world of skateboarding than Mark Rogowski. The popular vert skater was still dating Brandi McClain, had endorsement deals, and was one of the faces of the sport alongside stars like Tony Hawk and Steve Caballero. However, Rogowski soon found himself out of the limelight when vert skating's popularity began to wane and street-style skating took off. He didn't deal with the change well. Looking for an answer, Rogowski turned to Evangelical Christianity, and told McClain that they could no longer have sex unless she married him.

After she rejected him, though, Rogowksi became distraught, and during this time, happened to meet up with an old friend by the name of Jessica Bergsten. According to Rogowski, the two had been drinking wine and watching a movie together, before he came up to her from behind and clubbed her until she was unconscious. In the course of this one night, Rogowski would also rape and murder Bergsten. During the court proceedings, he admitted that he'd done it in part because Bergsten reminded him of McClain. We wish that we were making this up.

14. The Extortion Attempt Against Rick Pitino

Sports figure(s) involved: Rick Pitino
Year: 2009

In 2003 Rick Pitino had sex with the soon-to-be wife of his equipment manager at an Italian restaurant after closing. According to his testimony in court, the woman whispered something in his ear, unzipped his pants, and initiated intercourse. Six years later, Pitino began receiving threatening calls and letters demanding millions of dollars in cash to stay silent about the tryst. The Louisville coach reported the extortion attempt to the FBI and in 2011 Karen Cunagin Sypher was sentenced to seven years in prison for extortion, lying to the FBI, and retaliation against a witness.

13. The Gold Club Trial

Sports figure(s) involved: Patrick Ewing, Andruw Jones, Terrell Davis, Jamal Anderson, Dikembe Mutombo, Larry Johnson, John Wallace, Walter McCarty, Dontae Jones, Eric Bischoff, and Jerry Stackhouse
Year: 2001

In 1994, a crooked strip club owner was tried for, among other things, prostitution, credit card fraud and money laundering. During the trial it was alleged that The Gold Club (a strip joint in Atlanta) offered free sex to celebrity clients to encourage their patronage, which actually sounds like an ingenious marketing plan to us. Epic sex stories involving prominent athletes quickly surfaced, including a John Starks' romp with a woman in a private room, a similar tale involving Andruw Jones (only this time with two women), and, to his credit, a denial by Mark Jackson who answered "No, thank you, I'm a married man" when the owner brought strippers to a hotel and randomly knocked on the doors of Pacers players offering sex. Not surprisingly, Reggie Miller allegedly obliged.

12. Ben Roethlisberger Is Accused of Rape

Sports figure(s) involved: Ben Roethlisberger
Year: 2008

According to Roethlisberger's accuser, the Steelers quarterback lured her into his penthouse suite at Harrah's Lake Tahoe by claiming that his television was broken. Once she arrived to the room, Roethlisberger allegedly forced her to have sex with him. The woman never filed a criminal report and originally sought at least $500,000 in a civil case. The two-time Super Bowl champion settled the case out of court in 2012 for an undisclosed amount.

12. Ben Roethlisberger Is Accused of Rape...Again

Sports figure(s) involved: Ben Roethlisberger
Year: 2011

Not to be confused with the popular music festival, "Benapalooza" was the horribly ill-fated celebration of Ben Roethlisberger's 28th birthday. While frequenting Georgia College watering holes (wow, what a celebration), the Steelers quarterback chatted up a 20-year-old coed who'd eventually accuse him of raping her. Roethlisberger reportedly bought shots for the girl and her friends and accompanied the gesture with a poignant toast, "Shots for my bitches!" According to court documents, he called the girl "a tease" and, at one point, used the popular "DTF" acronym by announcing, "I'm not down to fuck, but I like to fuck girls." Thanks for the clarification, Big Ben!

According to the alleged victim, Roethlisberger followed her into a bathroom "with his penis out of his pants," closed the door behind them, and sexually assaulted her. Criminal charges were dropped against the two-time Super Bowl champion, but the NFL suspended him for six games as a result of the incident.

10. Arnold Schwarzenegger Knocks Up a Housekeeper

Sports figure(s) involved: Arnold Schwarzenegger
Year: 2011

The character arch of Arnold Schwarzenegger is wayyy more dramatic in real life than in any of the Terminator movies. The guy is a body builder turned Hollywood icon who eventually became Governor of California. And guess what? None of that shit is half as crazy as when we found out he'd knocked up his 55-year-old Guatemalan housekeeper (who was pretty busted looking) and had a 14-year-old son with her. When news broke, his 25-year marriage to Maria Shriver went up in flames like T800 at the end of Terminator 2.

9. The Yankee Wife Swap

Sports figure(s) involved: Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekichs
Year: 1972

In maybe the weirdest story in all of sports, Yankee pitchers Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson swapped families in 1973, and not like Ric Flair and Rowdy Roddy Piper on ABC's Wife Swap. Like, for real. Kekich and Peterson made an offseason move to trade wives, children and homes. The deal worked out for Peterson who, to this day, is still married to Kekich's ex. Kekich, on the other hand, lost his touch on the mound and stayed with Peterson's former wife for less than a year. Let this be a lesson to you young arms out there who think it's a good idea to offer up your girl to some dude you met in the bullpen.

8. Kobe Bryant Accused of Rape

Sports figure(s) involved: Kobe Bryant
Year: 2003

During his stay at a resort in Eagle, CO, Kobe Bryant had intercourse with a 19-year-old hotel employee. Four days later, a warrant was issued for his arrest and Bryant was charged with rape. During the trial it was revealed that the accuser wore underwear containing another man's semen to her rape exam and, because she was unwilling to testify at the trial, charges were subsequently dropped. The scandal ended up costing Kobe (quite literally) when he iced out his wife Vanessa with a $4,000,000 "apology" ring and settled out of court for an unknown amount with his accuser.

7. Marv Albert is a Biter

Sports figure(s) involved: Marv Albert
Year: 1997

In 1997, Marv Albert made headlines when he was charged with forcible sodomy for allegedly biting a woman in his hotel room and coercing her into performing oral sex. During the trial, another woman came forward to accuse Albert of luring her to his hotel room as well, this time to "help him send a fax." The NBC Sports announcer reportedly answered the door fully aroused in woman's underwear and bit the woman. Albert eventually plead guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery, but skated on the forcible sodomy charge.

6. Mike Tyson Convicted of Rape

Sports figure(s) involved: Mike Tyson
Year: 1992

Mike Tyson has an absolutely deplorable criminal history that America's been seemingly willing to overlook. Before The Hangover cameos and one-man shows, Iron Mike was famous for biting a grown man's ear off during a boxing match and doing three years in the clink for rape. In 1991, Tyson was convicted of raping an 18-year-old beauty queen and sentenced to six years in prison. Tyson's always denied any wrongdoing, but said of the accuser in a 2006 interview, "I just hate her guts. She put me in that state, where I don't know, I really wish I did now. Now I really do want to rape her." Draw your own conclusions.

5. Tiger Woods Caught Cheating, and Not on the Golf Course

Sports figure(s) involved: Tiger Woods
Year: 2009

Women: can't live with them, can't humiliate them irreparably by smashing, like, 40 bottle service waitresses without consequence. Two days after Thanksgiving 2009, Tiger Woods crashed his Cadillac Escalade after a purported domestic dispute with his then-wife, Elin Nordegren. The Swedish model was allegedly turnt after she discovered that Woods was having sex with dozens of casual partners. Besides losing his golf game, Woods was dropped by Gatorade, had to answer every question with "That's a private matter" for two straight years, and was forced to hand over a painful $110,000,000 divorce settlement.

4. The Minnesota Vikings' Love Boat Scandal

Sports figure(s) involved: Bryant McKinnie, Fred Smoot, Lance Johnstone and unidentified others
Year: 2005

More than a dozen former Vikings (including quarterback Daunte Culpepper) were implicated in the infamous sex boat scandal. The event, which featured the, er, entertainment of exotic dancers flown in from Atlanta, was allegedly organized by cornerback Fred Smoot. Rumors ranging from Bryant McKinnie performing oral sex on a woman at the bar to Smoot working as the middleman for an act involving a double-sided dildo (use your imagination) grabbed headlines. After the cruise, the boat crew reported cleaning up used condoms, K-Y Jelly, and sex toys in the party's wake. The scandal and subsequent media fall out resulted in criminal charges against McKinne and Smoot for disorderly conduct and the appropriately named complaint "being a nuisance on a watercraft."

3. The Duke Lacrosse Case

Sports figure(s) involved: Members of the 2006 Duke Lacrosse team
Year: 2006

Never rush to judgment, even if it involves Duke's athletic program. In 2006, a stripper accused three members of Duke's Lacrosse team of rape. The story swept the country, in part because Durham's District Attorney Mike Nifong labeled the men guilty and called the night's events a hate crime. The allegations proved false and everyone from Duke University's chancellor to Nancy Grace looked like absolute jackasses for piling on the innocent teens. Nifong was disbarred for dishonesty and fraud. The woman who made the false claims, Crystal Mangum, was never charged with a crime.

2. The Steubenville High School Rape Case

Sports figure(s) involved: Ma'lik Richmond and Trent Mays
Year: 2012

Social media has arguably been the most influential innovation of the past decade in terms of how human beings interact with one another and share information. Unfortunately, it's also been one of the most abused. Nowhere was this made more painfully clear than in Steubenville, OH, a small, Midwestern town that played host to a disturbing rape incident in August of 2012 involving two high school football players and an unconscious 16-year-old girl from West Virginia.

Due to their graphic nature, we'll spare you the details, but it's important to note that the lack of remorse displayed by the boys involved. Richmond, Mays and their friends posted pictures of the girl on Instagram and Facebook where she was visibly unconscious, and also one particularly tasteless Twitter status that read, "Song of the night is definitely "Rape Me" by Nirvana." This is, unfortunately, one of the few times where it's actually justified to ask what the hell is the matter with kids these days.

1. Jerry Sandusky Convicted of Child Molestation

Sports figure(s) involved: Jerry Sandusky
Year: 2011

When the media circus circling the court case of former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky finally came to a close, Sandusky emerged from the experience as one of the most despicable figures in sports history. Long the right-hand man to coaching legend Joe Paterno, Sandusky had previously been known for the tough defenses he helped build during his 30-year career in Happy Valley, as well as his Philadelphia non-profit charity, The Second Mile.

After the trial, though, Sandusky's reputation was beyond repair. The former defensive coordinator had created a culture of lying and sexual abuse through his charitable organization, and was personally responsible for the molestation of countless young boys he met through the Second Mile since its foundation in 1977. Not much more can be said about this except that Sandusky deserves every ounce of punishment he's dealt in prison.
