Ryan Garcia has some serious issues with the upcoming fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis.
Garcia sounded off on Instagram August 20 just hours after reports surfaced Paul and Davis are set to square off later this year. Garcia wrote, "Boxing is officially the WWE with the gervonta vs JAKE PAUL fight. A heavy weight is fighting a lightweight and you are suppose to believe that’s a fair fight. If you know anything about boxing you can see it’s a disgrace."
Garcia is clearly stating he believes boxing has become more of an entertainment spectacle than a competitive sport, at least in this instance. Garcia might still be salty after losing to Davis back in April 2023 when he was defeated by knockout in the seventh round.
ESPN reports both Paul and Davis' camps confirmed the exhibition fight will go down on November 14 at at State Farm Arena in Atlanta and will be promoted by Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.
The report states the fight will be streamed globally on Netflix but the contracted weight and number of rounds has yet to be determined. Both sides have reportedly been in talks to make the fight happen for months before finally working out a deal.
In discussing the timeline of the decision to make the fight happen, Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian told ESPN, "The original timeline assumed that 'Tank' would be fighting Jake after he fought Roach. The outcome didn't necessarily change anything per se, but our timeline of waiting around to see what Davis was going to do resulted in Jake fighting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr."
It's the second massive fight for Paul in as many years. He took on Mike Tyson in November 2024 at AT&T Stadium in another fight streamed on Netflix. A reported 65 million concurrent viewers tuned into the Paul and Tyson match, making it the most-streamed sporting event ever at the time.
Paul won that fight by unanimous decision.
