Deion Sanders is on the road to recovery after a very private battle with bladder cancer.
Coach Prime, wearing a cowboy hat and sunglasses, was joined by members of his medical team during a press conference Monday, July 28, where it was revealed doctors had recently discovered a cancerous tumor on Sanders’ bladder.
Sanders’ doctor said he had his bladder removed and replaced with a new one, and the surgery was a success.
The Colorado football coach praised his medical team throughout the press conference and continuously urged people to get regular checkups with their own doctors. Prime said with the rate at which his tumor was growing, failure to discover it quickly would have resulted in a much tougher diagnosis.
Shockingly, Prime said the whole ordeal caused him to lose 25 pounds, adding, "I can't pee like I used to pee, it's totally different ... I cannot control my bladder." He also shared that he's now getting up several times throughout the night to use the restroom.
During the press conference, Sanders showed some serious love to God, his friends and family, saying his kids barely left his side while he was dealing with cancer.
As for his football team, Sanders said his players did not know the severity of his diagnosis, but he'll be back on the sidelines this year, exclaiming, "I'm back, baby." Sanders said fans can expect to see a porta potty behind the Colorado bench during games.
Sanders said he remained in touch with his coaches while he was fighting, making sure they all stayed on task and carried out offseason goals in his absence.
It was back in June when Sanders first revealed he was dealing with some undisclosed health issues, though he didn't dive into exactly what was going on.
