Kevin Durant knows how to score on the court, but this time his shot didn’t quite land.
On the September 30 episode of Up & Adams, the new Houston Rockets forward tried to extend an invitation to the cookout to podcast host Kay Adams.
During their on-air chat, Durant suggested she make the trip down to Houston this season, not only to catch a game but also to join him afterward for some Texas barbecue.
“You should come down to Houston, which I'm expecting you to come to a game,” Durant told Adams, before adding, “and we’re going to a barbecue down in Texas when we get out here.”
Adams, however, wasn’t exactly swayed. She reminded the 17-year NBA veteran that she had already been in attendance at one of his games last season—and that Durant didn’t acknowledge her. “You would not even wave,” she said, shutting down his invite with a smile.
Durant quickly offered an explanation. He told Adams he had been injured during that particular game and didn’t realize she was in the crowd until he watched her show afterward. “It’s all good,” he added, brushing off the moment and moving the conversation toward the upcoming season.
The exchange drew plenty of attention, partly because public “shots” from athletes and entertainers have become a trend.
This isn’t the first time Adams has found herself at the center of lighthearted speculation. Her dynamic on-air rapport with NBA insider Shams Charania sparked enough buzz that fans began to wonder if their chemistry extended off camera.
Earlier this year, Charania was even asked on The Pat McAfee Show whether the two were dating. He didn’t confirm anything, instead praising Adams as a talented colleague who made him feel comfortable on set.
Durant, a two-time NBA champion and 15-time All-Star, will suit up for Houston this season after a blockbuster seven-team trade.
