Marlon Wayans is catching heat online after posting a tribute to Hulk Hogan days after the WWE icon’s death.

On Saturday, July 26, Wayans shared an Instagram message that read, “The Hulkster. Iconic, far from perfect. Flawed as hell… but you and Macho man were my favorite wrestlers. I hope y'all leg locking or piledriving each other in the afterlife. Glad you found Jesus before you passed. And i hope that gave you peace. Rest well ‘brother.'"

Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, died at 71 after a cardiac arrest at his Clearwater, Florida, home on July 24. While many fans mourned a transformational figure in pro wrestling, others pushed back, pointing to past controversies involving racist language.

Several commenters blasted Wayans for praising Hogan. Responses ranged from brief dismissals—“Bye Marlon” and “He’s a 🤡”—to calls for him to “stay outta them folks business sir 😂😂😂😂.”

Others cited specific incidents tied to Hogan’s history. One person wrote, “I will always remember when Hulk Hogan’s son killed someone while driving drunk and the Hulkster said his whole family would be reincarnated as black people as punishment.” Another argued that Wayans’ framing minimized harm: “His words and actions were way more than ‘flawed and imperfect.’ You really should be ashamed of yourself! I want no parts of a heaven that he gets into!”

Hogan’s name has long been linked to widely reported tapes in which he used racial slurs while discussing his daughter Brooke dating a Black man. That context fueled much of the backlash under Wayans’ post, with users saying a eulogy-style sendoff for Hulk Hogan glossed over those issues.

Not every response targeted Wayans; a few commenters called out perceived double standards, citing luxury brands with troubled histories.

“Black ppl that wear Coach, Gucci, and Tommy Hilfiger but mad at Marlon. Shut up,” one person wrote.
