Floyd Mayweather has always been as famous for his extravagant spending as he is for his undefeated boxing record. But this time, Mayweather claims his latest car splurge went wrong — and he’s taking the matter to court.
According to Fox News, back in July, Mayweather posted a video tour on Instagram showing off four vehicles he said he purchased from Vegas Auto Gallery, a luxury car dealership in Las Vegas.
That post has since been deleted, but it set the stage for what has now become a high-profile lawsuit. On September 18, Mayweather resurfaced the topic with a new post, sharing a screenshot of a TMZ headline about his lawsuit against the same dealership. In the caption, he warned his followers: “This guy @nick.dossa @vegasautogallery does bad business. Be careful.”
According to Mayweather, the dispute centers around a 2018 Maybach Landaulet. While the boxer said the dealership took back three of the cars, they allegedly refused to take back the Maybach.
“I had my team and my business partners do their homework on the car,” Mayweather told TMZ. “Come to find out the car was in lawsuits, and some parts were changed on the car.”
The financial details are also in question. Mayweather says he was charged $1.2 million for the vehicle after being told the dealer had paid $1.1 million.
That margin didn’t bother him until further research revealed the actual purchase price. “I did my homework. I did my research, come to find out he only paid, if I’m not mistaken, $728,000 for the car. So he beat me out of over half a million dollars,” Mayweather said.
His attorney added more allegations, telling TMZ the car lacked proper paperwork, including title, odometer certification, Department of Transportation and EPA compliance, customs clearance, and inspection certificates. Each of these omissions, they argue, makes the sale improper and potentially illegal.
The lawsuit now seeks $1.2 million in damages from Vegas Auto Gallery.
