Damson Idris appeared to throw sarcastic shade on social media at someone who claimed the British actor had turned down the role of the new Black Panther.
The actor’s message came after a user on X, formerly Twitter, expressed their disappointment that he allegedly said no to the iconic role. “@DamsonIdris purportedly turned down the role of Black Panther. He would have been perfect for it too. Oh well,” the user wrote.
Idris reposted the message and added a somewhat snarky response. “Yes sir. I turned down 007, a co-lead film with Daniel Day-Lewis and an Eddie Murphy biopic too,” he wrote, wrapping up his message with an upside-down smiley face emoji.
Rumors previously surfaced that Idris was one of three actors who recently turned down the part of Prince T’Challa in an upcoming Black Panther film. The other two who are said to have allegedly passed on the role were David Oyelowo and John Boyega.
Idris’ comment about turning down a role as Murphy is interesting, given the fact that he expressed his wish to play the comedian during an interview with Good Morning America in 2022.
Idris most recently starred in F1 with Brad Pitt. The actor spoke with Vanity Fair last year and reflected on the first filming day at the British Grand Prix in 2023. “I look to my left, it’s Brad Pitt. I look to my right, it’s Javier Bardem. I look at my hands, they’re shaking,” said Idris. “And we shoot all of this epic stuff and all the amazing drivers are there, from Lewis [Hamilton] to [Max] Verstappen to everyone.”
The actor also opened up about what it was like to work with Pitt. “Talk about a superstar,” he explained. “His humility is second to none. I don’t know if people know this, but he is really good behind that car. Really good. Too good almost. He makes me nervous how good he is.”
