We are all “so lucky to be alive” while Paul Thomas Anderson is delivering one banger after another, so argues Taylor Swift, not to mention the writer of this very article.
During her appearance on The Tonight Show on Monday, Oct. 6, the Life of a Showgirl artist, whose accompanying theatrical event topped the box office this past weekend (thus besting PTA's latest in its second weekend of release), praised the truly excellent One Battle After Another when asked to name the last movie she watched.
“Oh, One Battle After Another. My god, my god,” she said, as seen below. “Chase Infiniti, Teyana Taylor. How are they gonna split the Oscar in half? We will see.”
Swift went on to praise Leonardo DiCaprio and Benicio del Toro as “so funny” in the film, as well as highlighted the score, led by frequent PTA collaborator and Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood.
“The fact that when you hear that theme each time, it makes you feel something different every single time,” she said. “We are so lucky to be alive at the same time as Paul Thomas Anderson. It’s crazy that he is just out there doing that. He’s writing it, he’s directing it, he’s existing on this higher level that we get to watch.”
Whether you personally rock with Taylor’s Showgirl or not, there’s no denying that everything she said about PTA’s OBAA is entirely accurate. The film is a brilliant, exhilarating watch in a theater, with Teyana Taylor building handily on the proven acting prowess she previously showed in A Thousand and One back in 2023.
PTA’s film is destined to go down as one of the defining films of our time, no doubt making breakout star Chase Infiniti a sustaining household name in the process.
Go see it. If you’ve already seen it, go see it again.
