Rockstar Games Eases Pain of 'Grand Theft Auto VI' 2026 Delay With New Trailer

With 'GTA VI' just over a year away, Rockstar is rolling out a new trailer.

The stakes are high in the new trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, but the hype is even higher.

The latest glimpse at the long-awaited Rockstar Games title, as fans are well aware, arrives in the wake of a fittingly apologetic confirmation that the follow-up to 2013’s still-ubiquitous Grand Theft Auto V wouldn’t be arriving until next year. That news was met with frustration from some fans, while others were quick to note that patience, especially in pursuit of an artistic ideal, is often rewarded.

When is Grand Theft Auto VI being released?

Despite previously being teased with a 2025 release window, that’s not happening. Earlier this month, Rockstar let fans know that GTA VI’s release date had been pushed back to May 26, 2026.

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” Rockstar said at the time. “The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”

What can fans expect with the new Grand Theft Auto game?

When announcing the 2026 pushback, Rockstar made sure to highlight its larger goal when it comes to new titles, namely an aim of repeatedly besting themselves.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception,” a Rockstar rep said earlier this month. “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

More specifically, those big on trailer Easter eggs would be wise to consult Complex’s rundown of key moments from the first GTA VI trailer in 2023. The music of the late Tom Petty, the arrival of new protagonist Lucia, and various recreations of real-life incidents are all integral to GTA’s new chapter.

Just how massive will Grand Theft Auto VI be?

The title is a surefire blockbuster. At the top of the year, Financial Times, citing data from DFC Intelligence, reported that the game was projected to bring in more than $3 billion during its first 12 months.
