On Thursday, July 17, author Amy Odell gave fans a sneak peek into her new book titled Gwyneth: A Biography.
The book goes in-depth into the life of 52-year-old actress and entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow, detailing everything from her career to romantic relationships to the rise of her brand, Goop.
Odell’s biography offers a closer look at Paltrow’s former relationship and engagement to 90s icon Brad Pitt. According to Odell, the two first crossed paths while auditioning for Legends of the Fall in 1994. They reconnected the following year while filming the thriller Se7en, in which Paltrow played Pitt’s wife. A romance blossomed, and the pair eventually got engaged before calling it off in 1997.
"It was major, major love at first sight," Paltrow told People about her relationship with Pitt, adding that she was "heartbroken" when it ended.
Paltrow soon began dating fellow actor Ben Affleck following her breakup with Pitt. According to author Odell per People, the two of them were "an intellectual match, but he had demons."
“Affleck was struggling with alcoholism and a gambling habit around the time he met Gwyneth,” she alleges. “Her friends had reservations about him because he didn’t always reciprocate her affection. He at times seemed more interested in playing video games with the guys at his house than being with Gwyneth.”
Odell's book also reveals details about the fallout between Paltrow and 'Queen of Pop' Madonna. While neither Madonna nor Paltrow have spoken publicly about the ending of their friendship, Odell claims, “Their relationship reached a breaking point when Madonna showed up to an island where Gwyneth and Martin were vacationing."
Odell also writes about Paltrow's professional journey with her wellness brand, Goop.
"Her greatest cultural impact isn’t popularizing Calvin Klein fashion or jade eggs — it’s showing the world just how much consumers will spend for the luxury of being well, no matter what science tells us. Whatever happens with Goop, Gwyneth will be fine."
Gwyneth: A Biography is set to hit bookshelves at the end of this month and is currently available for pre-order.
