Honey Boo Boo is recovering after being involved in a frightening car accident outside her Colorado home on Friday afternoon.
The reality TV player's mother, June “Mama June” Shannon, broke the news in a series of Instagram videos, explaining that her daughter, former Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, was struck on the driver’s side by a young man who admitted to speeding down the road at about 40 MPH. The crash occurred as Thompson was pulling out of her driveway.
“She’s lucky to be alive,” Mama June told TMZ, noting that her daughter waited at the edge of the driveway for nearly 15 seconds before attempting to turn. “If she had pulled out a few seconds later … it would’ve been a whole different visit.”
The TLC star was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but was later released and is now back home resting. Mama June immediately traveled to Colorado to be by her daughter’s side, and expressed gratitude that the incident wasn’t worse.
The crash comes at a particularly tough time for Thompson, who had just started a nursing program. She was forced to miss the first day of clinicals while she recovers, something Mama June said her daughter was disappointed about.
Still, Mama June urged her to focus on healing, pointing to the example of her older sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, who suffered a traumatic brain injury years after initially feeling fine following her own car accident.
“She wanted to go [to clinicals], but I told her to rest,” Mama June said. “Her health comes first.”
