Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have found a co-parenting rhythm that suits their family well.

In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Carey admitted that she and Cannon try their hardest to ensure their children, Monroe and Moroccan, peacefully transition between the two of them as co-parents.

Carey got candid about this arrangement. She admitted, “How do I say this? They spend time with him, and they have a good time; they spend time with me, and they have a good time. I want to make sure I’m always fair about the situation because it’s tough to grow up with divorced parents."

Cannon previously said to PEOPLE of co-parenting with Carey, "There's no hard feelings and ill will. Ultimately, it's about putting the kids first and making sure they have the best childhood they could possibly have."

Carey and Cannon were first linked in early 2008 when Cannon starred in Carey's "Bye Bye" music video. After just a few months of dating, they secretly tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony in the Bahamas.

However, after eight years together, the couple divorced. Cannon admitted that while he loved Carey, he found it difficult to take a backseat to be married to the biggest pop star in the world.

“I got married in my 20s to the biggest star in the world,” Nick said during an October appearance on the Ray Daniels Presents podcast. “I would lie up at night thinking, ‘Is this who I am? Am I Mariah’s man? Is that what my life’s supposed to be?"

He continued, "Then, when you have children and the hierarchy of man's s*** is like ‘Wait, I’m carrying the purse, the diaper bag, and I’m standing on the corner waiting. She’s rocking being all the alpha that she is.”

Cannon is the host and producer of Wild ‘N Out. Carey will release her 16th studio album, Here For It All, slated for release on September 26.
