Podcaster Theo Von’s Netflix taping in New York City did not go very well, judging from fan comments on social media. In fact, some attendees said he “bombed” at the event.
"Theo Von was taping a Netflix special tonight and apparently just absolutely bombed," wrote Awful Announcing editor Ben Koo, who shared various critical posts on his X page.
Fans weighed in on the X comment thread.
"It was hilarious. I was there. A lot of what they said was true, not sure about the walking about part though because I was up close. I find it very hard to believe that anywhere near 1/3 of the crowd left early," wrote one person.
"Last night I went to the taping of Theo Von’s new Netflix Special at the Beacon. It was hard to watch. He seemed unrehearsed and disorganized, repeating bits multiple times clearly trying to get it right for the camera. This killed the vibe in the theater," another attendee wrote, adding that "lots of people walked out," including him.
A third chimed in, "I love @TheoVon but the show last night was rough. I hope he’s okay.
"I was there and I can tell you it was not good. He forgot his jokes half the time and would make excuses," alleged another fan.
Video circulating on X captures Von saying he is having a "long month."
Some fans offered critiques of Von's past performances.
"I’ll say this. I seen Theo last year and while it was overall great, there were a few moments where it almost seemed like he was nervous AF. Like he was either forgetting punchlines due to the nerves or just flat out didn't know what to say at times," opined one fan.
But some people defended Von. "Dude this is all from Reddit. Of course they hated it. They’re all the punchlines in his jokes," wrote one.
"Nope, definitely valid take. I saw him Oceanside and it was similar. Started off strong first 20 mins but it was a fall from then on. Had to walk out early because it was too hard to watch. Love Theo, but it was rough. His headliners were great though," countered another fan.
