Roblox is an extremely popular online gaming platform. Far from giving signs that it is shutting down, last year, the company announced a series of upgrades.

In fact, on Aug. 22, the company's stock surged after a key analyst from Wolfe Research upgraded Roblox's standing on Wall Street.

The analyst upgraded the rating for the online gaming platform to "buy." Roblox says on its website that 111.8 million people use the platform every day. The company reports 27.4 billion engagement hours.

"Roblox is experiencing exceptional growth, driven by both its creator ecosystem and global expansion," Yahoo Finance reported, citing its strength with younger users.

So, why would anyone think Roblox was shutting down, especially as soon as Sept. 1? That rumor went viral, but, according to AZCentral, it was sparked by a fake social media post. That post came in the form of an announcement that generated fans' concern. But it's not true.

Concerns about Roblox shutting down also stem from the fact that the company is facing lawsuits. However, those lawsuits have not concluded, according to AZCentral.

The fake statement sounded real to a lot of people. It said, "After careful consideration, we have decided to permanently shut down our platform. This decision comes as a direct response to overwhelming popular demand, alongside growing concerns about safety and security. While this was not an easy choice, we believe it is in the best interest of our community."

The fake statement has more than 580,000 views on X.

According to AZCentral, while it's possible Roblox could shut down sometime in the future, there is no evidence that this is about to occur.

The legal challenges focus on allegations that Roblox has safety concerns, but the company stresses it investigates safety concerns and works with law enforcement, according to The El Paso Times.

The company has an entire section devoted to safety on its website.
