Spike Lee is among many who celebrated ASAP Rocky beating his gun assault case this week.
On Tuesday (February 19), the Harlem rapper was acquitted on two felony assault charges stemming from the 2021 shooting of his former friend, Terrell Epheron, formerly ASAP Relli.
Shortly after the acquittal, Lee posted a still of Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, from his upcoming crime thriller Highest 2 Lowest, where, ironically, he plays a character on trial. "ASAP and Denzel Washington are fire in Highest 2 Lowest," the legendary director captioned the post.
On Wednesday, Lee had more to say about the Rocky's involvement in the film, which stars Denzel Washington and Ice Spice.
"Good Morning, Thanks To The Judge And Jury For The NOT GUILTY VERDICT," Lee began. "A$AP AND DENZEL WASHINGTON ARE [multiple fire emojis] IN HIGHEST 2 LOWEST."
He continued, "DA New SPIKE LEE JOINT THIS SUMMER. AND DAT'S DA "40 ACRES AND A MULE" TRUTH, RUTH, YA DIG? SHO-NUFF."
Highest 2 Lowest is a reimagining of the 1963 film High & Low. Lee confirmed to Deadline last December that Rocky will have a "main role" in Highest 2 Lowest, which will be the filmmaker's fifth project with Washington.
