Patrick Schwarzenegger has the body of a superhero, and almost played one on the big screen.

The actor, who stars in the current season of The White Lotus, was a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he told host Josh Horowitz about all of the superhero roles he's auditioned for. Although he missed out on the role of Homelander from The Boys, Schwarzenegger nabbed the role of Golden Boy for its spinoff Gen V.

But perhaps his biggest audition of all was for Jame Gunn's Superman, which hits theaters on July 11. "I don’t think I got any feedback. I think it was like, 'No, not for you,'" he said of the self-tape audition.

Schwarzenegger, who's the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, did land the part of Saxon Ratliff in White Lotus immediately after his Superman rejection. The actor also spoke at length about doing self-tape auditions during the pandemic, and how he's since auditioned in-person The Idea of You and FX miniseries American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, where he played a college football era Tim Tebow.

“It’s just one person on the screen and when they talk, they’re on it and then you talk and it switches to you,” Schwarzenegger said of that Zoom auditions are like. “So, it’s really weird doing a scene with someone because sometimes they’ll be mid talk and you say something, and it’ll switch to you and then it’s really distracting and weird.”
