Pras Michél's life story and federal trial will be the focus of an upcoming documentary produced by Mark Wahlberg.
As reported by Variety, the Fugees member has landed a deal with Wahlberg's Unrealistic Ideas to chronicle his journey from an artist to being found guilty on all ten counts in his federal conspiracy case. The "Ghetto Supastar" rapper was accused of illegal lobbying on behalf of Malaysian businessman Jho Low in a scheme to influence United States political campaigns.
In April 2023, Michél was found guilty of conspiracy, witness tampering and failing to register as an agent of a foreign government. Michél was scheduled to be sentenced to up to 20 years last month, but the date was pushed for the musician to undergo emergency colon surgery.
In a statement to Variety, Wahlberg called his longtime friend Michél a "legend" and said he's "rooting" for the artist "to tell his story."
"Everyone is fascinated by all the twists and turns, like it’s some kind of thriller," Michél said of his story. "But for me, this is just my life — the real, messy, complicated truth of what I’ve been living through."
In the doc, Michél will uncover footage he filmed on his phone around the time of his controversial trial, like an encounter with a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) official who was later sentenced to death for bribery. Michél was accused of facilitating bribes from Low to high-profile celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio. The businessman has been a fugitive for roughly ten years.
