Taylor Swift dropped her much-anticipated new album Life of a Showgirl on Friday, October 3, and already it has gotten an intense level of attention. It has also caused fans to speculate about many of her lyrics, including which songs are about which people in Swift’s life.

One song on the album that has particularly gotten fans talking is called “CANCELLED!” and fans believe that Swift wrote the song about her friend Brittany Mahomes. Brittany, the wife of Patrick Mahomes, and Swift have been close friends since Swift began dating her current fiancé, Travis Kelce, during the summer of 2023.

As part of the song, Swift seemingly offers advice to someone in her life who has been cancelled.

“Did you girlboss too close to the sun? / Did they catch you having far too much fun? / Come with me, when they see us, they’ll run / Something wicked this way comes,” Swift sings.

Swift also suggests that she has been publicly cancelled herself, likely referring to her public feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in 2016.

“Good thing I like my friends cancelled / I like ’em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal,” she sings in part. “Like my whiskey sour / And poison thorny flowers / Welcome to my underworld / Where it gets quite dark / At least you know exactly who your friends are / They’re the ones with matching scars.”

Fans believe that the reference to Gucci is intended to be about Brittany because she previously got a lot of attention for wearing Gucci attire to the 2024 U.S. Open. She was there on a double date with her husband, Kelce, and Swift.

The “cancelling” that Swift sings about is believed to be a reference to the intense criticism and scrutiny that Brittany got for subtly showing support for President Donald Trump.

Elsewhere on the new album, Swift seemingly sings about a feud with Charli XCX, her sex life with Travis Kelce, and Elizabeth Taylor.
