If you’re eagerly awaiting a sequel to Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, there's good news and bad news.

The good news is a follow-up is confirmed — two of them, in fact. The bad news is it might be an extraordinarily long time before you get to see them.

First, though, if you’re new to the series, what is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle? It's a Japanese animated fantasy-action film based on the 2016–2020 manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge. More specifically, its Infinity Castle story arc.

Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, and produced by Ufotable, it follows the feature-length animations Mugen Train (2020), To the Swordsmith Village (2023) and To the Hashira Training (2024). The latter two are compilations of episodes from the anime series.

The film debuted in Japan on July 18. It was released by Crunchyroll through Sony Pictures Releasing in select Asian countries in August, before releasing in all other territories the following month.

The full title is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns. That’s because it’s part of a planned trilogy of movies. This was announced in June 2024, immediately following the airing of the fourth season's finale. More on that below.

Will There Be a Sequel to Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle?

Yes, there will be two sequels to Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.

Industry speculation suggests Part 2 may arrive in 2027 and Part 3 in 2029, though no official release dates have been confirmed. Together, the films are set to cover the remainder of the Final Battle and Infinity Castle arcs.

There has not been an official update for a while. Infinity Castle took roughly three and a half years to make, with production starting back during the Swordsmith Village Arc, according to Forbes. That means the full trilogy could still take several years to conclude.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Reviews

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has received widespread critical acclaim, with a 98% critical score and 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

G. Allen Johnson from the San Francisco Chronicle writes, “It’s not crucial to see the previous 'Demon Slayer' iterations to enjoy 'Infinity Castle.' The concept is pretty simple: There are some demons. They live in an Infinity Castle. Humans who are members of the Demon Slayer Corps go there to try to defeat them…But while the plot is simple, the visual imagery and the emotions are complex.”

Tessa Smith from MamasGeeky writes, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is exactly what fans have been waiting for. After the series ended on a massive cliffhanger, it promises to be wrapped up with three films. The first of which is two and a half hours long, but never drags or feels its length. It almost flies by, offering up important backstories in between epic fight sequences.”
