James Gunn's Superman just shattered a record only 18 days after the film premiered on July 11, 2025.
The latest installment in the beloved franchise, led by newcomer David Corenswet, just surpassed over $292.4 million at the domestic box office per Box Office Mojo, and over $506 million worldwide.
Superman has already passed Man of Steel's domestic box office number, becoming the highest-grossing solo Superman movie of all time in the U.S. market.
It has also surpassed the domestic box office for all of Christopher Reeve‘s Superman films between 1978 and 1987, both domestically and worldwide, as well as 2006′s Superman Returns with Brandon Routh.
While Superman may be the highest grossing solo Superman movie in the U.S., it's not the highest-grossing movie to feature the iconic superhero. The highest-grossing movie featuring Superman overall remains Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which earned $330.3 million domestically and $874 million worldwide.
The newest Superman, starring Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor alongside Corenswet, has been both a commercial and critical success. The film currently scores an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and 68 on Metacritic.
Gunn has begun writing a follow-up to the blockbuster film, but no official plans for a sequel have been announced yet. Corenswet and Brosnahan have also signed option contracts for the potential Superman sequel.
In 2026, DC Studios will be releasing a Supergirl movie, featuring Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El, who had a minor part in Superman.
