Seth Rogen’s new Apple TV+ show, The Studio, boasts an A-list celebrity cast that includes Martin Scorsese.
Rogen—who stars in and directs the series—sat down with Stephen Colbert, who asked what it was like directing the legendary filmmaker.
“It was great,” Rogen said. “We wrote a part that was very specific. It was Martin Scorsese. He can only play Martin Scorsese. We sent it to his agent and we were so excited when we heard that he liked it and he wanted to do it.”
He continued, “And then I was confronted with the very real reality that I had to now direct Martin Scorsese in something, which, as a director, is your worst nightmare in the entire world, is having to direct one of the greatest living filmmakers in something. And so, I was incredibly scared."
Rogen said even his mother acknowledged the weight of what he was doing. "You must be terrified," she told him. "This is the scariest thing you could possibly have to do.’”
In another conversation with Howard Stern, Rogen shared that when he and his partner, Evan Goldberg wrote 2007’s Superbad, Scorsese's 1990 film, Goodfellas "was a huge inspiration to us.”
The Studio is an American satirical comedy show created by Rogen, Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez. Both Rogen and Goldberg also serve as executive producers.
Scorsese makes a cameo in the first episode, where he plays himself. Also appearing in the main cast are Catherine O'Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn.
Bryan Cranston, Charlize Theron, Zac Efron, Ron Howard, Zoë Kravitz, Ramy Youssef, Anthony Mackie, Steve Buscemi, Olivia Wilde, Adam Scott, Johnny Knoxville, and more appear as guests.
The first two episodes of The Studio are now available to stream on Apple TV+.
