Kourtney Kardashian is addressing criticism after posting a photo of her 21-month-old son, Rocky Thirteen, on a boat without a life vest.
On Friday, Aug. 8, the Lemme founder shared images on Instagram from what appeared to be a trip to Idaho. One photo showed Rocky aboard a boat without a life jacket or flotation device, sparking a near-immediate backlash.
A day later, Kourtney Kardashian responded on Instagram Stories, noting she had already taken action. “Update: bought a life vest that fits!” she wrote, adding, “Good looking out. Honestly didn’t think about some of the dangers. Thank you for making me aware and hopefully this helps make other mommies aware of the dangers of certain types of boating without a life vest,” she said in her post.
Comments on Instagram and Reddit flagged the safety issue and pointed to local requirements. Idaho law requires children 14 years old and younger to wear life jackets while on the water.
“Great photo except for the fact the child has no life jacket on,” one Instagram user wrote. Another added, “You can make those kinds of decisions for yourself. But don’t make a decision like that for your child. PLEASE.”
On Reddit, a commenter said, “Rocky should be wearing a life jacket. Such dangerous neglect,” while another user suggested a vest was visible nearby, writing, “Kids on boats should always be wearing appropriate life vests, and it looks like it’s sitting in the seat right next to them.”
Kourtney Kardashian later reshared the boat photo in her Stories on Aug. 8 to mark World Breastfeeding Week, writing that she felt “blessed and grateful for this beautiful life and experience together with my baby.”
Kourtney Kardashian, 46, welcomed Rocky in November 2023 with husband Travis Barker. She also shares three children with ex Scott Disick: Mason, 15, Penelope, 13, and Reign, 10.
