Jonathan Majors’ time as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains one of the most debated storylines in recent MCU history.
After being removed from Marvel’s lineup following his 2023 conviction, fans have consistently speculated about whether he might return. That speculation boiled over this week—only to be quickly shut down.
On September 12, a Marvel update page claimed that The Beyond Report, a well-followed business newspaper in the comics space, reported that Majors was making a comeback.
The page said the outlet suggested Marvel would reinstate him in the role.
But the original reporter quickly denied this claim, posting, “erase that I didn’t say that.” The correction ended the rumor before it gained traction, but it reignited conversation about Majors’ past comments on the subject.
Earlier this year, Majors himself made clear he would be open to returning if Marvel asked. According to Deadline, Majors reopened the conversation back in March while promoting his film Magazine Dreams.
“Yeah, of course I say yes," he said, when asked if he'd ever return to the Kang the Conqueror role if asked. "Disney, Marvel Studios, I love them.”
He praised his co-stars as well, adding, “Tom Hiddleston, loved working with that guy. Loved working with Paul Rudd. Loved working with Gugu Mbatha-Raw. I love the industry so much, and now I’m in the place where I can feel the love from them and actually express my love for them.”
In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Majors was asked again whether he would return as Kang—or even as Damian “Diamond Dame” Anderson in a possible Creed III continuation. His answer was just as clear: “Yes. Yes, to both,” he said. “The version of me that would come back to those places, though, would be different.”
Despite his willingness, Marvel has already moved in a new direction. After Majors’ conviction and sentencing to probation, Marvel distanced itself from Kang and restructured its Avengers films. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was retitled Avengers: Doomsday, shifting focus to Doctor Doom, who is expected to be played by Robert Downey Jr.
