Cashel Burnett, a former contestant of Love Island who appeared on the 2019 first season of the U.S. adaptation, is facing three domestic violence-related charges after he was taken into custody at a Utah jail last year.
As reported by TMZ, Barnett was jailed in Utah last month on a felony warrant after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend in front of their one-year-old daughter. He was accused of slapping the unidentified woman and holding her up by her neck, strangling her until she went unconscious. Now Utah prosecutors have leveled further charges against him, including aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, and domestic violence in the presence of a child.
In the legal documents, Burnett was accused of slapping and choking her while sexually assaulting her in November 2024. He has been accused of getting violent with his ex-girlfriend after she told him to get a job to help support their daughter. The victim alleged that he put his hands down her pants and he became aggressive when she kissed him back. "Is this what you fucking want?" he allegedly told her before assaulting her in front of their child, who was crying as it went down.
Burnett is currently being held without bail and will be arraigned later this week. He has denied the charges against him via his attorney.
"Mr. Barnett maintains his innocence and denies any wrongdoing," said his attorney. "My client and his family are enduring an incredibly difficult time, and we hope that his privacy will be respected as we work diligently to defend his name and reputation."
