Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is currently at the Venice International Film Festival to promote his new movie, The Smashing Machine, and he's gone viral after looking noticeably slimmer.
The 53-year-old actor and semi-retired wrestler was seen in multiple videos circulating on social media arriving at the prestigious film festival. In one of the clips, he was seen walking alongside his co-star, Emily Blunt, and he appeared in a buttoned-up shirt with a much slimmer frame. He already underwent something of a transformation for his role in The Smashing Machine, but he seems to have lost even more weight and muscle mass since filming the movie.
The Smashing Machine is a somewhat different role for Johnson, who has typically appeared in more box office and family-friendly fare. Directed, written, and edited by Benny Safdie, one-half of the director-writer duo behind Uncut Gems, the biographical drama follows the story of former MMA fighter Mark Kerr. The movie also reunites him with his Jungle Cruise co-star, Emily Blunt.
"When you’re in Hollywood—as we all know, it had become about box office. And you chase the box office, and the box office can be very loud and it can become very resounding and it can push you into a category and into a corner," he said during a press conference about the movie, which will be distributed by A24. "This is your lane and this is what you do and this is what Hollywood wants you to do."
He said that he had a "burning desire" to push himself as an actor. "I looked around a few years ago and I started to think, you know, am I living my dream or am I living other people’s dreams?" he said. "I've been scared to go deep and intense and raw until now, until I had this opportunity."
