Production on The Pitt’s second season is underway. The show’s critically acclaimed first season saw Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, running the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center in real time. But the second season will pose all-new challenges for Wyle.

During the inaugural Televerse 2025 festival on Saturday, Aug. 16, Wyle revealed that he will be directing an episode in the upcoming season, per Variety.

“We are just about finished with episode five. We start episode six on Tuesday,” Wyle said. “I feel prepped, which is what you want to feel. This has been such an amazing experience for me, all the way down the line.”

This will be Wyle’s first time directing on The Pitt, but some of his previous directing credits include Leverage: Redemption, The Librarians, and Fallen Skies.

The first season saw Dr. Robby grappling with post-traumatic stress following the death of a colleague, while training a new group of interns and residents on their first day on the job. Each of the season’s 15 episodes took viewers through one hour of a 15-hour shift.

Season 2 is set to take place during Fourth of July weekend, though not much else is known about the characters’ individual scenarios. The Pitt also stars Katherine LaNasa as nurse Dana Evans, Shawn Hatosy as Dr. Jack Abbot, Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Taylor Dearden as Dr. Mel King), Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan, Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, Gerran Howell as Dennis Whitaker and Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi. All of these actors are set to return for the show’s second season.

The first season earned 13 Emmy nominations, with Wyle nominated both as a producer and lead actor.

The Pitt’s second season is set to premiere on HBO Max in January 2026.
