Snoop Dogg has released a new children’s song called “Love Is Love” in support of the LGBTQ+ community — listen to it above.
Released on Thursday (October 16) for Spirit Day, the song, which comes in partnership with the advocacy group GLAAD, is a collaboration with former The Voice contestant Jeremy Beloate.
Speaking about the track in a conversation between Snoop and Beloate, Snoop revealed the inspiration behind the song.
"It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is," Snoop said. "Being able to have parents from all walks of life, whether it be two fathers, two mothers — whatever it is, love is the key."
"It’s teaching parenthood. It’s teaching situations that kids in the world is going through right now in a beautiful way through song, dance, melody, just trying to get more clarity on how we live and the way we live," Snoop continued. "And I felt like this music is a beautiful bridge to bringing understanding."
"These are things that kids have questions about, so now hopefully we can help answer these questions and help them to live a happy life and understand that love is love," Snoop concluded.
The track, which appears in an episode of Snoop’s animated series Doggyland, features lyrics about how love is the same no matter who it’s between. "Our parents are different / No two are the same / But the one thing that’s for certain is the love won’t change," sings the show’s characters.
Snoop’s song comes after recently questioning a lesbian relationship in the Pixar movie Lightyear that "threw [him] for a loop" because he wasn’t sure how to explain to a kid how two women could have a child.
During an appearance on the It’s Giving podcast, Snoop claimed that his grandson, who he took to see the movie, asked him, "Papa Snoop, how does she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman."
"I didn’t come here for this shit," Snoop said on the podcast about the experience. "I just came to watch the goddamn movie."
"So it’s like, fuck me, I’m scared to go to the movies now," Snoop added. "Like, y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for."
