Snoop Dogg's business moves continue, with the Doggfather now becoming co-owner of a Welsh soccer team.
According to AllHipHop, Snoop, along with Croatia World Cup finalist Luka Modric, has signed a minority stake deal with the Welsh soccer club Swansea City AFC.
Snoop, who was also announced to be an investor in the team, shared a statement expressing his pride to be a part of the team. "My love of football is well known, but it feels special to me that I make my move into club ownership with Swansea City," said Snoop in a statement.
"The story of the club and the area really struck a chord with me,” he added. "This is a proud, working-class city and club. An underdog that bites back, just like me. I'm proud to be part of Swansea City."
Swansea’s owners also shared a statement about Snoop coming onboard, writing: "To borrow a phrase from Snoop's back catalogue, this announcement is the next episode for Swansea City as we seek to create new opportunities to boost the club's reach and profile."
"Snoop's colossal global fanbase and audience will certainly help us do that, and he has made clear to us throughout this process just how excited he is at the prospect of joining the club,” the owners continued. "Snoop has openly shared his love of football and his desire to be involved in the game and we expect his involvement to support us putting as competitive a team as possible out on the field."
Swansea could have a real chance to grow thanks to Snoop’s involvement, if what happened to their rival, Wrexham FC, is the blueprint. In 2020, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased the club and, in the time since, have become even more popular and won a championship.
The team’s owners also revealed that a mural of Snoop has been unveiled in the Swansea stadium’s West Stand “to mark taking his place as part of our club ownership.”
On Sunday (July 13), Snoop modeled the Swansea home jersey on social media. At the time, the team’s owners teased that Snoop would play a larger role on the team.
